I'd consider Standish to be a small town rather than a village as it has all the modern amenities and is easily accessible with the M6 2 miles to the west and the M61 about 4 or 5 miles to the east. It's far enough away from the much larger Wigan so does feel more village-like with 3 country parks with 3 miles. Ideal dog walking parks with well-maintained forest paths. There are plenty of cosy country pubs yet some more modern ones with restaurants and entertaining rooms. We loved Albert's, lively on a Saturday night and enjoyed great ribs at Hickory's Smokehouse. We only spent a weekend there but we'll return some day to explore it more.

Standish is a a small quiet place, very close to Wigan so a good place to stay if you travel to Wigan. There is a lovely pub near the hotel and a seafood restaurant next door. There are other food establishments but I only tried these two and they are both excellent!

Standish is a lovely quaint market town.

Standish is a lovely quaint market town. More village than town I would say. In the countryside you’ll find some nice walks and also river walks with locks etc and many an old country public house for a spot of lunch and a local ale. Great access to the M1 motorway makes Standish a very convenient spot to stay if you want something quiet and peaceful away from the hustle and bustle, with access to major towns and cities in the North West and not much further for North East and even not too far from Blackpool, Southport, Lake District , Leeds and the Wales and Scotland just a couple hrs by train from Preston or Manchester . Back to Standish & Local Area - Experience some amazing restaurants, offering traditional, homemade local delicacies and if fancy staying putting your feet up, try one of the great range of multi cultural takeouts. I can highly recommend a visit to Haigh Hall Country Park , an old country house, offering many beautiful walks and Golf Course which attracts many partners while the other partner makes a trip to, Manchester Trafford Centre just 20 minutes down down the motorway, for great shopping and food. If your partner is not a golf fan then maybe, they may find, one of many football grounds , Rugby, Cuktiral Sights, Museums plus in the evening you both may enjoy the Nghtlife in Manchester & Preston haveing great theatres too. If with the kids why not try the local ten pin bowling, cinemas, theatre, theme parks in Blackpool , Formby Squirrel Sanctuary and Beaches etc So all in all superb for solo travellers, a romantic get-away or family trip. Perfect for every occasion. Haigh Hall and other historic buildings beautiful spots for Weddings etc too Enjoy Standish and the local areas! The locals are exceptionally, very friendly & helpful too!!!

Breakfast was hot, plentiful and tasted really good. The orange juice was nice and cold. Lots of different tea bags to choose from. Buffet style full English! Never been to a hotel that serves fried bread, tinned tomatoes and black pudding before so I was extremely pleased with that!! I actually had a FULL English breakfast so we'll done britannia! The staff were all lovely, especially the lady who worked on the bar and in the breakfast room. Would definitely stay here again if im in wigan.

The property is centrally located in Standish, perfect for accessing eateries and pubs. Kitchen is well equipped. Outside rear area is nicely kitted and a good spot to sit. Rooms are spacious, well appointed and comfortable. We were fortunate to get parking right outside the house, it is a busy street and not everyone will be as lucky. Dog friendly house and lots of space for them both in and outside. First time in Standish and it was a nice place.
