    Great base for walking / cycling around the countryside. Drumlanrig Castle and Estate a must-see - plenty to do depending on the time of year including fishing on the Nith or visiting the Castle. Thornhill itself is a pretty little village, with a Co-op for any forgotten essentials.

    Friendly town, lovely meal in the Queensferryand Buccleuch Hotel, and excellent Chinese takeaway too. There were loads of cafes and a couple of independent shops, and well stocked Co op and Spar. Had a good walk in the grounds at nearby Drumlanrig Castle.

    Lovely location for exploring south west Scotland.

    Lovely location for exploring south west Scotland. Very close to Drumlanrig Castle amazing country walks and spectacular castle. Went to the beach at Carse which was great for dog walks. Thornhill itself had a lovely local pub with good valued food. Local bakery and butchers plus Co-op and Spar.

    Thornhill is a small village in “the middle of nowhere.”

    Thornhill is a small village in “the middle of nowhere.” This is what a local said to me. The scenery is beautiful with the rolling hills and the farmers fields. The village itself is quaint with impressive looking buildings.

    We stayed in Thornhill as we’d left Liverpool in the morning...

    We stayed in Thornhill as we’d left Liverpool in the morning and I wanted to see Drumlanrig Castle in the afternoon. Very pretty little village with a few cafes, small supermarket and gift stores. Two pubs.

    Thornhill is a lovely village some nice walks and places to eat some good local shops the property is lovely listed building with a great host Elizabeth Ann who looks after you and offers a fantastic breakfast you couldn’t want for anything

    Lovely little cottage just a couple miles from Thornhill. Good transport links and even a bus stop adjacent to the property, ample parking, beautiful scenery, and lovely and quiet. Will definitely book again. My 8 year old daughter loved the back bedroom, claimed it as her own princess suite. Bonus feature, sat on the end of the couch with a coffee and catching some sun through the open french doors.

    Friendly staff. Very clean. Good sized room. Large comfortable bed. Not a huge choice for breakfast but adequate and good quality... excellent porridge. Can't quite make up my mind about the evening meal, it didn't quite hit the spot, as if the chef was trying too hard....and far too much salt, after 2 meals we ate elsewhere on our third night. Still, a good hotel and I will happily stay again.

    A delightful wee hut equipped with all you need for a short stay. Anyone who likes camping with love this. A great wee place to escape. Location is lovely and quiet, lovely walks and only a short drive to Thornhill for supplies, pub restaurant etc. Heaps of history in the area.
