Lovely town with historic Minster (church) in the centre. Lots of interesting history. Good range of shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants. Plenty of things to do: the Tivoli theatre has films, musicians, plays, etc all year round. There are parks and a river in the town. Very flat and easy to walk around. Pubs with regular music nights! Staff are lovely and very welcoming. Great Italian restaurants nearby, we had dinner at one of them and the chicken in cream and mushroom sauce was divine. We only had breakfast in the hotel a couple of times as we were room only. Visit the minster and visit the library up the winding stairs if open. Our room was really lovely which we booked for 2 nights. The hotel is in an ideal situation. All the staff are friendly and helpful but I have to give special thanks to the fabulous Laura (reception/hotel manager). She is absolutely wonderful (as always) so efficient and welcoming with lots of personality and has become a friend. Every hotel needs a Laura.
