FAQs about hotels in Chania Town

A Charming Crossroads of Civilisations

Situated on the west part of Crete, the city of Chania is the second largest in this beautiful Greek island. Featuring rich history, breathtaking architecture and pristine beaches, Chania will take you to a fascinating journey through time.

Get your camera and wander around the narrow alleys of the old town or walk on the romantic promenade area of the old harbour with the iconic lighthouse. Set on a small hill, the central part of the town is called Kastelli and is populated since the Neolithic period.

A crossroads of civilisations, the city of Chania offers a harmonic combination of Venetian, Turkish and traditional Greek architecture. Do not miss the Greek Orthodox Cathedral Church of Chania, the Mosque of the Janissaries and the Venetian Fortification Walls.

The vibrant area of the new and old town has local taverns serving delicious regional specialties and tsikoudia. If you are lucky you might hear a Cretan mantinada, an improvised folk song about the everyday life.

Located on the Akrotiri Peninsula, the Chania International Airport is about 17 km from the city centre and offers year-round and seasonal flights to London, Brussels, Athens and Thessaloniki. Booking.com will help you find the right hotel, guest house or apartment in Chania.

When we weren't swimming or sunbathing, we spent most of our time in Chania Old Town and the Venetian Port. It does get very busy, but there are lots of gift shops and tavernas to explore. Dont miss the Domenico ice cream shop - amazing flavours, and very entertaining to watch how it's made. Further into the city, you'll find a broader range of shops and small cafes offering tempting Cretan snacks and pastries. Surprisingly, the central bus station has a great cafe with nice take-away cakes and snacks.

Chania is busy but worth a visit. The architecture is varied and the harbour setting is stunning. Plenty of interest in the side alleys including stylish clothes shops. A small theatre opposite our hotel is worth a visit

Chania Old Town is full of small alleys with a wide variety of shops. It also has a huge selection of restaurants, bars and places to stay. The Old Town is very easy to get around on foot and is very interesting. We really enjoyed our stay there and were very pleased with the location of our accommodation which was about a 25 minute walk from the Old Town.

Fun and vibrant both in the day and night.

Fun and vibrant both in the day and night. Endless lanes with all sorts of clothing, linen, leather goods, honey, herbs, raki, souvenirs, etc., etc. Shop around to spot the best prices. So easy to walk around. Every type of eatery and bar, there is absolutely loads of choice for Greek specialities in particular. Bar owners invite you in but there is no hassle. Everyone is friendly. For open air reasonably priced dining, we liked Kentrikon restaurant but the others in the surrounding square are good too. Higher end pricewise, with a superb cheese plate and wines specially selected: Kritamon. The maritime museum was fascinating - entrance fee €5 very reasonable, and has a great scale model of the venetian walls and harbour. Also lots of ancient and modern scale model ships, collections of stamps, maritime documents, uniforms, guns and more. Walk the harbour and around the walls if you can, to get the most from your trip. We got the public bus service back to the airport from Chania bus station - this cost €2.50 each as opposed to about €30 for a taxi. It couldn't have been easier, it runs at least one per hour and takes about 35 minutes. Other services are available, e.g. Rethymno €8 It made sense for us to stay a few nights in Chania, no car required for the town, but getting the bus back to the airport enabled us to pick up our car to drive down to the South of the island for the rest of our holiday.

The port and old town are stunning.

The port and old town are stunning. Make sure you explore all of it, as there is quite a lot to see. There are plenty of restaurants and bars and the harbor area is so pretty. We stayed on the west side of Chania and walked in, past Neo Chora beach which again has some great restaurants and bars and a pretty outlook. The only downside is if a cruise ship or two comes in, then the town is packed. But we were ok with as went in plenty of times when no ships were in. We visited mid September, weather was perfect, 27-28c during the day and 22 - 24c in eve. very comfortable time to visit. If you're a beach babe, then west of Chania, past Neo Chora beach (which is nice, but lots of busy sunbeds and not a large area) there is Kladissos beach. There is a beach club there called Zamana. Loved it here, good comfy beds, well spaced out, great food and service. Pretty outlook. two sunbeds and parasol 15 euro for the day. Same prices as in Neo Chora. We also had a car and went to Falassarne Beach on the west coast for a day. About 1 hour drive. Loved it there too but sunbeds very expensive, min 30 euro maybe more, so do your research. There is a season in Crete, Most of the beach clubs will close for the season at the start of October as well some businesses. Something to keep in mind if you are looking to travel later in the year. Final note, petrol is really expensive on the island, 1.80 euro per liter. First time to Crete and won't be our last.

I had a very pleasant stay at Hyperion Hotel in Chania, Crete. The hotel is quite new, and the bedroom was spacious and very clean. The bed was extremely comfortable, contributing to a restful sleep. The staff were very nice and accommodating, even allowing us to use the locker rooms to change after we checked out before heading to the airport. The hotel's location is great, close to a local beach, which is convenient for a quick swim in the ocean. Overall, it’s a pretty good hotel with excellent amenities and service.

A beautifully restored property, prime location in the heart of Chania’s old town. Very comfortable and spacious. Large comfy bed. Coffee, tea ,water and wine were provided. Restaurants, bars and craft shops all within easy reach. The hosts at the nearby sister Alcanea Boutique Hotel were brilliant. Eva allowed us to leave our cases at the hotel until it was time for us to leave for the airport which allowed us extra time to enjoy the delights of Chania.

The hotel is stunning! We were in love with every single corner of the hotel and amazed how well thought all the details were. While the property is top notch (it was one of 9 hotels we stayed in Crete) it’s nothing compared to the hospitality and friendliness of every member of the staff. Special thanks to a lady at the cafe/restaurant/bar - best cocktails and most amazing attitude (always with a smile) ☺️

This place was lovely. Our last night in Crete and a beautiful, boutique, bohemian upstairs room with a roof terrace overlooking the harbour. The owner was lovely and we could have stayed there forever. Absolutely gorgeous part of Chania's Old Town a stone throw from the water.
