FAQs about hotels in Chania Town

A Charming Crossroads of Civilisations

Situated on the west part of Crete, the city of Chania is the second largest in this beautiful Greek island. Featuring rich history, breathtaking architecture and pristine beaches, Chania will take you to a fascinating journey through time.

Get your camera and wander around the narrow alleys of the old town or walk on the romantic promenade area of the old harbour with the iconic lighthouse. Set on a small hill, the central part of the town is called Kastelli and is populated since the Neolithic period.

A crossroads of civilisations, the city of Chania offers a harmonic combination of Venetian, Turkish and traditional Greek architecture. Do not miss the Greek Orthodox Cathedral Church of Chania, the Mosque of the Janissaries and the Venetian Fortification Walls.

The vibrant area of the new and old town has local taverns serving delicious regional specialties and tsikoudia. If you are lucky you might hear a Cretan mantinada, an improvised folk song about the everyday life.

Located on the Akrotiri Peninsula, the Chania International Airport is about 17 km from the city centre and offers year-round and seasonal flights to London, Brussels, Athens and Thessaloniki. Booking.com will help you find the right hotel, guest house or apartment in Chania.

A beautiful little city, loved it.

A beautiful little city, loved it. I stayed at the beach and walked to town every couple of days, it’s only one and a half kilometres. Chania is the most beautiful town and you can do tours to other places. I don’t think they are worth staying in. Chania has it all

We stayed in the old town which is a mass of tiny streets - all very colourful - all very different. We are still not sure if we explored them all! Restaurants were mainly family run and the joy of eating out was getting to know the staff, the family. Food was good wherever we went, and our only slight disappointment was that the menus all seemed very similar. The horse drawn carriage ride around the old town was brilliant!

Nice place to visit, lots to see and do.

Nice place to visit, lots to see and do. Though I would not visit during peak periods. In regards to visiting shops, nearby beaches, touristic attractions etc., there is a large variety. Yet, I would recommend visiting villages around Chania as well. For shops and food, best to dwell towards what the locals normally visit, mostly in the west and south parts, away from the main "tourist hubs". Quality is significantly better and price lower.

Chania is a fantastic Old Town area built around an old Venetian harbour. The back streets are full of restaurants, bars, art , pottery and jewelry shops ( amongst lots of other businesses ) a few music bars- always something to look at. Best to be in town early evening for a meal ( it gets really busy between 8 and 11 pm ) During the day - plenty of eating places and prices fairly reasonable mostly. Almost too much choice of places in general to wander around. A lot of boutique hotels in the Old Town centre but just a few hundred yards away from the centre , there's still a lot of good places to stay. The main beach is out past the castle walls , maybe 400 meters and places to eat, drink there too. Can't really fault Chania and the people there are very friendly and polite.

Loved roaming around old town with its many laneways, shops and restaurants. Close to the port . Beautiful view. Easy town to get around. We walked from Nea Chora and used local buses to get to many out of town locations. Eg. Stavros Elafanissi Falassarna. Favourite beach is Golden Beach (a short walk from Nea Chora). Water was crystal clear and it almost has golden sand. Sand at Nea Chora is brown. We did not find a bad restaurant in Chania. Food was excellent. Service is not always good and some waiters were very rude. Red Jane bakery and Bougatsa Iordanis must visit - excellent.

Chania has everything - history, charm, restaurants, shops, plenty to do and see, or simply for sea and sand, which are in walking distance. We did two coach trips, and didn't need to hire a car. The locals were kind and funny and relaxed - great atmosphere.

This was the second time we'd stayed at the Nefeli after flying into the airport and before setting off for the south of Crete. It's a really nicely kept hotel with great rooms in a perfect position for stopovers. The main bus station is right across the road, the harbour is a few minutes walk away, and the shops and restaurants are all around. We had wonderful top floor rooms with large balconies this time and everything was so perfect that we wished we could stay a week or more.

The hotel is stunning! We were in love with every single corner of the hotel and amazed how well thought all the details were. While the property is top notch (it was one of 9 hotels we stayed in Crete) it’s nothing compared to the hospitality and friendliness of every member of the staff. Special thanks to a lady at the cafe/restaurant/bar - best cocktails and most amazing attitude (always with a smile) ☺️

I loved my short stay at Helena Hotel and I really wish I could’ve stayed longer. The view of the room was absolutely incredible, the best view I had in Chania yet! The room was very clean and comfortable. The location was perfect, very centrally located in old town. The hosts were always helpful and super welcoming! Thank you!

This place was lovely. Our last night in Crete and a beautiful, boutique, bohemian upstairs room with a roof terrace overlooking the harbour. The owner was lovely and we could have stayed there forever. Absolutely gorgeous part of Chania's Old Town a stone throw from the water.

Such an amazing appartment. Modern and so clean with a beautiful courtyard and parking. Such an awesome position with just a short walk to old town Chania, we will definitely be back next time we come to Crete. Very helpful owners also.
