This is a surprisingly interesting town with wonderful 19th century neo classicle architecture. one can spend days exploring. Ano Syros is also surprisingly pretty. We loved our swim at Asteria Beach close by after walking close to 500 steps to visit the Venetian style alleys of Ano Syros. beautiful, clean, mixture of old and new, marble streets and historic merchants houses, plenty of good restuarnts and cafes and nice shopping area with everything you could need on tap. Nice little marble/cobbled streets, on the flat around the harbour and shops and then a bit steeper to get to the theatre and church. Found a fab terrace for a cocktail at posh hotel La Ploues. Room was nice with a balcony which had a beautiful view over Ermoupolis and the Port. Was picked up by Dimitris in the port and had a short “Ermoupolis highlights” tour. Giouli and Dimitris had great tips for me to make my stay at Syros just that bit better and helped me with car rental.
