Not much happening in Karterados and Fira is bloody...
Not much happening in Karterados and Fira is bloody expensive. I would however recommend moving on to other nicer islands such as Milos, Ios, Naxos and particularly Paros. Only thing I'd change is renting an ATV/scooter/car right from the get-go. Buses in Santorini are not that reliable and do not seem to go according to the schedule printed in the main station (only the airport one departed as scheduled from what I could see). That being said, it's not a terribly long walk, but after a full day walking and sweating under the sun, who wants to wait for a bus or walk for 30 minutes? This was our second time staying in the village. Very convenient for getting around not too far to walk to Fira. We don’t like crows so prefer to stay outside of the main tourist areas this is just far enough away from the capital. It is on some back streets so it is so quiet away from the noise of the street. It has a nice view of the ocean and the hotel layout is fantastic. So many of the rooms feel very private and secluded even though you're in a hotel complex. There are two pools and every day we had a pool to ourselves for more than an hour in the afternoon.
