Lovely picturesque area.
Lovely picturesque area. Friendly people with plenty of food options on the waterfront. Area gets a bit crowded when ferries arrive and depart but that is only twice a day (early morning and late evening) and area tends to clear out quickly. No nightlife, so a perfect quiet getaway. This is a lovely little place, and - in May, at least - not crowded with tourists. There are a number of good tavernas and a couple of convenient supermarkets. The beach is lovely, with great swimming. Hiking trails along the coast, if you are feeling energetic, or boat to Loutro or further afield. A little history, too - Allied troops evacuated from here in 1941, after losing the battle of Crete. Really enjoyed my stay here, and would love to return.Guest review byJamesUnited Kingdom - 10.0

The village is quite small, but perfect for those looking for a quiet break in stunning scenery. There are plenty of restaurants and a few shops, but not really suitable for people wanting a busy atmosphere. The big bonus is that boats run regularly to nearby beaches and villages, some of which can only be accessed by water. Sweet Water beach is well worth a visit, and has a small taverna, and the village of Loutro is great for a leisurely lunch. The area is also good for walkers, with the Imbros gorge nearby. Small coastal village off the beaten tourist track with some lovely, quiet sea-front tavernas and a wide selection of excellent accommodation. Small beach in town and another a twenty minute walk away. Boats daily to other locations on this part of the coast. I have been here many times, and it was great every time. The small town is beautiful, and it has everything within meters. A perfect place to write a book or work on a math problem. Make sure you try Despina's coffee and cakes.
