We loved staying at this family run property! The staff were so lovely, and made us feel so incredibly welcome!! The hotel overlooks Milna beach, so location is perfect, and we preferred staying in quiet Milna, rather than Hvar, which was a quick drive away. We also did the coastal walk and beach hopped one day, all the way to Hvar, easy to start from the hotel. Breakfast was included and was a great buffet, which you could take outside overlooking the water. There’s also lots of cute restaurants along the tiny strip, not all of them were open because the season started 3 days before our arrival, but I imagine in peak season it’s more of a vibe. Our balcony was the best part of our hotel room and it was hard to pry ourselves away from the view. If you’re a couple or family craving something more quiet and less busy than Hvar, then this is the spot!!

The most incredible property we’ve ever stayed at. The location, the breakfast, the views, the staff. The team kindly upgraded our accommodations because we were on our honeymoon and truly made it an experience we will NEVER forget - once in a lifetime! Katia at the front desk is amazing. We spent 5 nights at Palace Elisabeth and we will be talking about it for the rest of our lives! Hope we can make it back someday.

FAQs about hotels in Hvar

Echoes of the Age of Empires

Hvar is the largest city on the Croatian island of the same name within the Adriatic Sea. The wildly undulating coastline formed a natural harbour here, a fact which didn’t go unnoticed by the Venetians, who captured it as part of their empire. The Venetian Fortress sits atop a hill and 13th-century ramparts descend to the old town.

Another castle from Napoleonic times is on a different hill offering beautiful views over red roofs towards the offshore Pakleni islands sheltering the port. Ferries link Hvar to neighbouring Brač and Vis islands, Split and Ancona in Italy.

Given the size of the city, the amount of Hvar accommodation is staggering, and Booking.com offers everything from luxury hotels with pools to cheap guest houses and beachfront apartments. Although most beaches are rocky, their scenic setting and warm turquoise waters are still a draw.

At the heart of the city is the largest square in Dalmatia. Restaurants and bars spill out onto its cobbles, ending at St Stephen’s Cathedral with its see-through belltower. Around the same time the cathedral was going up, one of Europe’s oldest theatres was constructed in the waterfront Arsenal. The Loggia is the only remain of the Governor’s Palace, and the Hvar Heritage Museum helps to put all this in context.

This was the perfect Adriatic vacation.

This was the perfect Adriatic vacation. Best mix of historical sites, sea-side exursions, excellent restaurants, and time to relax as well. Be prepared to walk a lot and have proper footware for walking on the rocky beaches.

    I loved Hvar.

I loved Hvar. Scenery beautiful, great restaurants in the town at the back of the main square, very pretty settings some are expensive to other European travels I've been on. Our favourite restaurants were Black Pepper, Fig, Junior. Would not choose to visit July/August main town can be very busy. Sun beds along the coast can be expensive to hire. Saying this I travelled as a couple In September and we loved Hvar.

Love, love, love Hvar, however, it is tough going if you are not fabulously fit. I am in my mid 60s and swim 3km a week and walk about 5kms a day. My husband has a prosthetic leg. I found the steps challenging, they were almost impossible for my husband. Hindsight.... stay in Split and use the ferry to do a day trip - leave on the early ferry and stay until the last daily ferry. Hvar is seasonal a few restaurants in the back blocks are starting to close for the year. By the end of October we are told 1 restaurant remains open until April. Oh... I should mention is it not a cheap getaway.

Hvar is beautiful and has enough to be relaxing, or to have fun and excursions if you want them. The recent sound curfew means it is a great place for those not so keen on being kept up by those partying, but there is a lively atmosphere in Hvar Town. The beaches are all pebbly and public, so open to all. Beach shoes are a must, but there are ample sun loungers to rent and the water is crystal clear. There are loads of restaurants and cafes, and no hassling by them trying to get you in, which was refreshing. There is lots to do, the fort is worth the walk, and there are numerous boat trips to the other beautiful islands, there are water sports and an inflatable aqua park too.

Hvar centre is over priced and if you do not get recommendations where to eat you could end up paying a lot of money for poor quality meals. The island itself is beautiful and worth exploring on your on own. Jelsa would be a much better based than Hvar old town, where a glass of wine is half the price!

We have mixed feelings about this hotel. Old building but with a nice pool area. The breakfast on one hand offers really big choice of food and drinks but on the other hand for example all juices that they offer are from a box, not even fresh orange juice is provided. The strength of the hotel is the stuff working there - nice and helpful. Location is nice - 10 min walk from center of Hvar and in front of a private beach (not belonging to the hotel though so one has to pay for umbrellas and chairs).

We loved our stay at Hotel Forr apartment in Hvar! The apartment was super clean, spacious, and had everything we needed. Bonus points for the washing machine and the proper filter coffee machine – with really good coffee provided! The bed and pillows were very comfortable, which made for a great night's sleep. We especially enjoyed sitting out on the balcony with a glass of wine, taking in the lovely view. The hosts were really friendly and helpful too. Can definitely recommend this place.

This is the perfect place to stay in Hvar. The family who run the hotel are so kind and helpful and do drop offs to and from the town and to the beach which is so helpful and makes it better than staying in town as the beach is not easy to access without a car. The pool is lovely and the surrounding is comfortable and relaxing. The rooms are spacious and clean with great AC. Cant recommend this place enough

Clean, great location and amazing views of the old church and bay. Fantastic staff, very friendly and attentive. They greeted us on arrival with champagne and provided lots of information and recommendations of the island. Nice amount of sunbeds to relax and close to the sea (this is a public beach, not the hotels). Would definitely return when we come back to Hvar.
