Stunning Split stands proudly on the eastern shores of the Adriatic Sea, and due to its great climate is called the Mediterranean Flower. It features eclectic architecture, spectacular views and delicious cuisine.

Split is a very interesting town with World Heritage status due to it's unique Roman remains and historical architecture but it is also a very lively port where the market stalls shops and restaurants cater for locals and tourists from all over the world! If you like 'people watching' you'll love it! Cruise ships arrive every day and the bars and restaurants along the Riva are perfect for sitting in the sun or relaxed meals. Loved Split. The old town is beautiful and clean and the waterfront is gorgeous. The local people are friendly and helpful. The food is excellent. We did a walking tour and and boat trip. We ended a cruise in Split. It's definitely worth seeing. Book a walking tour and a golf cart tour... you'll see totally different things. Two days exploring town is plenty, but it would have been fun to take a couple of excursions to other island attractions that our cruise didn't cover. We were there the first week of October, so it was sunny during the day and chilly in the evening, very nice. Also much less crowded (though still bustling) than in the summer months. I can't say that we had a great meal, other than pizza at Bokamorra, which had a nice vibe and some of the best pizza ever (get the truffle and mushroom). Stay at the Hotel Ambasador for a luxury experience and spectacular views of the entire city and harbor. Friends stayed at one of the hotels in the palace and, while quaint, it was more like a place we'd have stayed at in our college years. Split is an amazing city - very historic with Diocleatian's Palace finished in 404AD. Do the Free walking tour - go on line and you give a tip. The supermarket is good to buy food for a meal - restaurants are expensive. We travelled beginning of October, one day stay over at the start before a boat trip and then again for one day after a week. Weather was cool-ish at night. Many restaurants and shops within the old town, no need to venture far away. Food and wine prices were higher than expected, exceeding that of most cities in Italy, which is the last European country we have visited in the past year. Clothing was not expensive, though.
