In hind sight would stay first few days in Stari Grad and finish stay in Hvar town to be closer to port. Looking nice, but strange that after 23h everything is sleepy....restaurants and caffes are closed after 23h, and shop is working till midnight. A wonderfully walkable and friendly place, with a rich history and vibrant atmosphere. At any given time there are small vessels moored from around the world, alongside the picturesque wharf lined with outdoor cafes and gelatories. Good location as a base.
Good location as a base. All the great beaches are closer to Stari grad. City of Hvar is definitely the nicest but cities like Jelsa, Vrboska and ofc Stari grad are having their own charm. Speaking of restaurants in Stari hrad, I would recommend Barba Luka. One of the greatest fish meals I had so far...and staff is excellent. It's quiet but still full of action.
It's quiet but still full of action. A lot of restaurants with different dishes and different kind of music. Some even with live musicians. There is a great plaza in the city covered with micro-blazes that shoot tiny drops of water producing refreshing fog. Kids loved it. Big sidewalk along the sea allows for great night walks. The city beach is fairly nice, clean water and normally crowded. Great vacation for family with kids. Perhaps not so good for partygoers.Guest review byMilanSerbia - 10.0

This is a lovely port not too big with plenty of restaurants and sailing yachts which moor each evening and give the place a very lively atmosphere. We stayed in a front room with sea view and terrace and the breakfast was served on the large terrace outside or inside if it was raining which did not happen for us - fortunately. Ante the Manage/0wner actually drove us back to the ferry at Hvar on our departure as the taxi driver had to cancel at the last minute and we were really grateful to him for that kind gesture. Yes it is easy to get around Stari Grad and we will rent bicycles next time as it is mostly quite flat.Guest review bynugentUnited Kingdom

Their daughter was with them on our arrival to explain in English how everything works. Rooms are comfy, spacious with en suites with all you could need. Pool is great with lots of inflatables to keep the kids entertained. Nice bottle of wine and chocolates from the hosts on arrival, and a small gift on departure. The breakfast. It was all great. The place is in Stari Grad which is 22km from Hvar Old Town. If you like being closer to the Old Town, little Streets restaurants and bars, this IS NOT the place for you.
