Esztergom is not a big city and it gives opportunities for travelers to walk to most of the sights. The importance of the city on the Danube was high and it is rich in history. The seat of the head of the Hungarian Catholic church is in Esztergom and the cathedral is stunningly beautiful with a cafe in the dome part, which provides uncomparable view of the city and the surroundings. With the basilica looming above it, there's a real sense of history about this town. Very filmic atmosphere. Lovely river frontage and great cycleways and walkways. Esztergom is a charming little town, with pretty streets and a wonderful cathedral to visit. It's easy walking distance everywhere. We ate in the evening in a great restaurant not far from the river called Mediterraneo, which we would thoroughly recommend. Room #14 was a very nice size and faced the Basílica. The bed was very comfortable.
