We just left and are already thinking about when we'll return. We've experienced a wonderful place: its people, its jungle, its culture. We've always been greeted with smiles, joy, and support from the entire town. The food is always great! And what can we say about the surroundings? We're nature lovers, so there couldn't be a better place. We'll definitely be back! We stayed in Eriono, an unbeatable location. We also stayed at the Garden Inn. But there are many good places and plenty of places to eat or drink. Getting around Bukit is very easy; you can walk everywhere, but if not, you can take a motorbike, tuk-tuk, or car; anything is possible. What we really liked was the four-day trek through the jungle, and being able to observe orangutans was magical.

Bukit Lawang is one of my most favourite places on the planet. It is like stepping back in time. People are so friendly and welcoming. You probably need 5 days there to explore and trek. Well worth it

The part of the Gunung Leuser national park that you can access from here is a magical place. The first part of the trek is very busy, because all tour groups enter the park at the same spot. There are one or two ex-rehab orangutangs who are very used to people who hang out near the entrance, so there are loads of your groups thronged around taking pictures. Despite that, it is wonderful to see orangutangs and other animals that are in their natural environment, and the rainforest itself is stunning. We didn’t spend any time in the town itself. I think there is a tourist area and the part of the town where local people live. The two are about a 20 minute walk apart. If you stay where all the hotels are then I think you can easily find restaurants and souvenirs.

Bukit Lawang is a busy little village on the river bank which is great for rafting and swimming. The jungle trekking is excellent and you ordinarily get to see Orangutans which is amazing. The food is good for the price. The people are amazing. The Ida hotel has got everything sorted. They arranged a taxi from the airport (journey approx 4 hours) and our Jungle Trekking which all ran smoothly.

    It is a nice place.

It is a nice place. We managed to see Orangutanges and lot of makakies, rubber plantation and jungle. Also walked around on the streets of Bukit Lawang. People in this village are very friendly, always smiling and trying to chat with you, even when not speaking english. As usual in this country, you can meet lot of rollers and smoking men. Roller drivers are very respectful for pedestrians, that was nice. Other side of the river were some good restaurants, good food, fresh juices, cold beer.
