If you are over 35, or a couple, this island may not be for...
If you are over 35, or a couple, this island may not be for you. Gili T is more for partying and Instagram people. The centre of the village is just crammed with horse carts, ebikes, bicycles and people. It is not really very relaxing to stroll around. Prices are higher than everywhere else (e.g. Bali or Gili A). At night it is just a mass of people drinking shots, and partying hard. EVERYONE is there to take pictures of themselves. So there are all these strange activities, like a sunrise paddleboard tour that lasts about 15 minutes (sole purpose is to take photos) or sunset horseback riding that takes 10-15 minutes (sole purpose is to take photos). No one hangs out and just vibes - it's all about the photos. I am also aware that Gili T is a muslim island and the swim suits that women were wearing were just indecent. I just wonder what the locals think about it. But the island itself, the diving, the snorkeling, the turtles are all great. The locals are fun and very cool. Not the location for me with my wife more for the younger backpackers type. Would not recommend. No sandy beach. Difficult to get in to the sea for swimming / snorkelling. There are no cars on Gili T.
There are no cars on Gili T. Only bicycles, e-bikes and horse carts. But it can get very busy (human traffic) in the SE of the island. You can walk/run/cycle around the entire island in less than an hour. Terrain is pretty flat. Snorkeling is a must do, particularly to look for the Gili Meno turtles. More popular than the other Gili islands, but yet, not too crowded. It has enough places to suit all kinds of people--young and want to party? Head to the harbour. Want quiet beach-side luxury or other experiences, head to the other parts of the island. Great for snorkelling or diving.
