Wonderful stay at Lelewatu! The staff was very friendly, welcoming and nice! Even though the English was poor, it did not matter since the staff was very attentive and helpful. They arranged for us to go horse riding, which was great yet tricky without much experience and without a saddle, but that did not matter especially on the beautiful horses. We had a nice room with big windows with the sea view and to fall asleep with the sound of the waves. There was a private pool with roomservice any time (the springrolls were delicious!!) Terima kasih banyak pak Tanto, mas Anton and the rest of the staff 🙏🏽

Solène and Stéphane are the best hosts you could ever imagine, they are bringing such a good energy on this pristine resort with magnificent view! Stéphane took us for a dawn patrol surf sessions with the quads, and spent a lot of time with us on the evening ☺️. We will definitely come back!

Location was unbeatable. Right on the beach with first class views of the sunrise, sunset and horses buffalo and locals as they went about daily life. Absolutely stunning authentic experience set in luxurious design and stylish interiors. Exceptional welcome, the owners enjoying the surf everyday and inviting us to join made it all feel so wholesome and heartfelt. This place is more than a hotel, it’s someone’s love letter to the island of Sumba and the passion project is infectious. Didn’t want to leave this serene and magical place: thanks for having us !

We were so pleasantly surprised by Sumba Nautil. It is located on a beautiful big property, with winding paths through their manicured gardens leading to each cottage. The gardens are full of flowers and fruit trees. There is a huge dining area, and an amazing large, clear pool all overlooking the ocean. The view is incredible!! Our cottage was spacious, clean and comfortable with a seating area both inside and out, all with ocean views. It felt like a mini home. The included breakfast was delicious and professionally served by such sweet staff. The owner, Mr Ali was very welcoming and kind to us and very helpful. The whole property is very private and so peaceful - we can’t wait to return

This was hands down one of the best places I’ve ever stayed. I was in complete awe the entire time — everything about it was just incredible. Imelda and the girls were so warm, welcoming, and genuinely kind, we were treated like family from the moment we arrived. The accommodation itself is absolutely beautiful, with stunning views and peaceful surroundings, plus the bonus of free-roaming animals which made it feel even more magical. The home-cooked meals were delicious every time, clearly made with love and care. They were also super helpful with local recommendations and sorted out things like scooter rentals for us with no fuss. The room was airy and spacious, and the bed was massive and insanely comfortable, we slept so well. The outdoor shower was also an amazing touch. We would come back to an impeccably clean room every day too!! Thank you so, so much to beautiful Imelda and the girls — we’ll never forget this experience. Can’t wait to come back one day xx

This place is heaven on earth. We felt like home. The staff are so nice, sweet and lovely. We have told them that it was the birthday of my friend and they made up a beautiful place with a wonderful table and they prepared a super Indonesian dinner. They were always available for us with their beautiful smile. We cannot describe how good we felt with them.We cried when we left. I really hope to come back next year and to find them...

Staying at The Rua Room in Umarato Villa was an experience straight out of a dream. The moment I stepped onto the balcony, I was greeted by a breathtaking ocean view that stretched as far as the eye could see. The sound of waves crashing against the shore created the perfect soundtrack to accompany the stunning vista. But the real gem of this room was the outdoor bathtub nestled amidst the natural beauty of the surroundings. Immersing myself in warm water while surrounded by lush greenery and the soothing sounds of nature was an experience like no other. It was a moment of pure serenity and relaxation, allowing me to unwind and truly connect with the environment. The attention to detail in The Rua Room was impeccable, from the luxurious furnishings to the thoughtful amenities provided. The hotel is beautifully designed and in a beautiful area very close to some picturesque beaches. The staff are very friendly and attentive and make it easy to organise trips and activities so you can experience Sumba. Surf lessons are a lot of fun and the village tour and waterfall tour are both great. Cocktails were really good, as was the food at breakfast. The hotel seems to have a good relationship with the local people and seems to have genuinely benefitted Sumba.

We love Asia and spend every year a month or more in the region. We found Three Queens exceptional for three reasons: First the location on the amazing and basically empty Rua Beach in beautiful Sumba. Second our hosts Lidya and Brad together with their three daughters and extended family pampered us throughout our stay with food and advice. Third, the four villas in traditional Sumba style are not only very beautiful, but also furbished and decorated with style and every detail is thought through.

    We knew that the resort is somewhat isolated so and that we had to use their facilities, but the isolation could not be seen as a disadvantage. If you consider how much poverty there is on Sumba, most resorts are pure luxury compared to how the local population lives. If you don't mind to just enjoy the basics in life and have no desire to be entertained like they do in Bali, Sumba is a very good destination.
