We came out to hike a glacier, see a few waterfalls, walk the beaches and then go to Westman Islands. We did all of this in 24 hours and this was not nearly enough. A lovely change from Reykjavik and surrounds. Beautiful scenery and more tranquil, although still lots of tourists. We did the Katla Ice Cave trip which was really interesting. About 2.5 hours drive from Reykjavik but worth it.Guest review byBrennan - 8.0

I stayed there for two nights when one would’ve more than sufficed. Other than walking on the beach or hiking up to the church, there really wasn’t much to do there except go to expensive restaurants. We especially enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere, the black sand beaches, and the dramatic coastal views. One small local place serving soups was absolutely wonderful — the perfect stop for a warm, delicious meal after a windy day. The town is small but cozy, with everything you need — a few restaurants, gas stations, and grocery stores. It’s a great base for exploring nearby sights like Reynisfjara Beach and Dyrhólaey. Basic place but some amazing things to see / explore / do. Good eating options, but as normal with Iceland, super expensive. Black Crust Pizza was cool. Very welcoming hosts and the place has all the facilities and amenities you need. We must mention the whole apartment was beautifully decorated. Also our host was kind enough to offer some delicious home made jam and cheese for us. It’s just a few minutes walk from the black sand beach and also the shopping areas nearby. It was very squishy and cold - but we booked it at 2pm so probably not enough time to heat it. 1 bathroom with 1 toilet (is in same room) on ground floor wasn't enough. We waited over an hour. But other bathrooms upstairs. Very basic compared to what we'd booked 8 months prior in Iceland even though price was same. The staff were lovely. Food was good - dinner was pricey, but this is standard in Iceland.
