Helpful and friendly host. Less than 10 minute walk to bus/train station Catania centrale. Arranged airport transfer for us that was punctual and reasonably priced. Made dinner reservations at a lovely restaurant that was walking distance. Very hospitable.

We booked this an accommodation for 3 nights as our flight got cancelled late in the evening. The staff were helpful and the check-in process was smooth. We enjoyed our stay here as it had good connection to Via Etnea and the main sights as well as the beds were comfortable. We haven’t tried the breakfast option so we could not have an opinion on that part. Overall it was an enjoyable stay despite the unpleasant circumstances related to the flight cancellation.

It was very clean and fully staffed. Anything I needed they were able to help with. Extra towels and always had a fully stocked fridge with free drinks and all the tea I could drink. I did also get two coffees (instant) every day. They promptly cleaned our room every day. The pool was open but the weather did not permit us to use it. I ordered room service and the food was good. I ordered a ham cheese and lettuce sandwich and a cheese only pizza because my daughter didn’t want toppings. It was a huge portion. They consider this light. It was very good. It was about 5-10 minutes from great restaurants. We also used glovo to get other food delivered to the hotel. I always ordered cappuccino in the morning and they had a good selection of meats, eggs, cheese, fresh fruit, and my favorite- a selection of croissants.

FAQs about hotels in Catania

The Perfect Combination of Ancient and Modern

On Sicily’s eastern coast, at the foot of Mount Etna, Catania is the island’s second largest city. This charming destination features unique Sicilian Baroque architecture, large squares, avenues and a very important port.

On the northern side of the Cathedral Square, the historical Palazzo degli Elefanti houses the Town Hall of Catania. The Elephant Fountain is the city’s symbol and the entrance to the main shopping area. Surrounded by stunning Baroque buildings, Piazza del Duomo is a popular meeting point for tourists and locals.

Dedicated to Saint Agata and built over the Roman Baths of Achilles, the Duomo has an impressive facade that is one of Gia Battista Vaccarini’s masterpieces. The cathedral’s dome dates to 1802, while in the vaulted interior is the grave of the well-known composer Vincenzo Bellini.

Facing the Ionian Sea, this beautiful seaside place is one the hottest Italian cities during the summer. Mount Etna is an active volcano and a nice place for skiing in winter or a trip to the solidified rivers of lava during the rest of the year.

Catania is easily accessible with Catania-Fontanarossa Airport, served by numerous European destinations like Munich, Rome and London. You can stay in one of the Catania hotels, guesthouses or hostels with Booking.com.

Unfortunately, my experience in Catania was quite disappointing. The city felt dirty and poorly maintained, with a lot of trash around the streets. It was hard to find good food, and many of the restaurants we tried were overpriced for the quality they offered. The city was also extremely noisy, both during the day and at night, making it difficult to relax or enjoy a peaceful walk. On top of that, the air felt quite polluted, and overall, I didn’t find Catania as charming or welcoming as I had hoped. Sadly, it didn’t live up to the beautiful image I had before visiting.

We did a walking food tour our first evening and it was really great way to see the center of the city, and find out more about the foods. We stayed for three nights but felt like we could have spent another evening, as we did a day trip to Siracusa and a day trip to Mt Etna/Tourmina so we didn't have enough time in Catania to appreciate it. That being said, many of the streets had graffiti on the walls as well as garbage on the sides of the streets, so it was not a clean city.

Catania is a very pretty alive town.

Catania is a very pretty alive town. The city center is easy to walk, with lots of monuments ,interesting Catholic churches to visit, countless places with excellent food, not to mention the coffee stores and the sweets! Walk around and get lost in the small streets around, to discover quiet cute coffee/food stores. At the main street (via Etnea) you will find among others, plenty of stores of famous brands for shopping. People are nice and gentle. We felt safe at all the places we visited. Please note that Catania is stated in the middle of the East cost line, so you can use the train or the bus and easily visit Syracuse or Taormina (both strongly suggested). We visited on October 2025 so we can't give any advise for the beaches. PS If the mayor or the state decide to invest money and make a good renovation of the buildings, then city center would be really fantastic.

We loved the food, the walking, the history and the overall vibrancy of the city. Driving into the city via the airport was hectic but once we arrived with the rental car, we used taxis and transit…the only way to navigate a large city any where. The city was cleaner than I thought it would be. The markets and food were outstanding. The people were very friendly.

Not really much to do there.

Not really much to do there. We stayed for three days and it was too long. We took a trip to Ortigia and Siracusa for one day. We probably should have stayed there instead. Everyone we spoke to that had been there before we got there, said they were disappointed and wished they had not stayed in Catania.

It is a medium-big city with little to no green areas, full...

It is a medium-big city with little to no green areas, full of cars. The architecture is beautiful, but it is compensated by many difficult to navigate streets (cars parked on sidewalk, no sidewalks, piles of rubbish - most by design as it is supposed to be collected soon - full of speeding cars and motorbikes that do not stop for pedestrians or barely do it, general irregular road surface) and urban decay, which get worse and worse as you go away from the city center. It is however somewhat in line to other italian cities of same population density. In general huge traffic and noisy especially during rush hours (lunch break 12-14 and after work from 17). Luckily small quiet areas can be found e.g. near university area and Park Bellini. Food is tasty and with great variety (sweets, meat, fish, carbs, wines, etc) and cheap unless you go to upscale places for tourists, but still you will pay just a few euros more. I tried dozens of bars and restaurants and it was only good to excellent quality, never bad or scam. Bars and restaurants are scattered everywhere. There is a beach nearby but was a bit strenuous to reach by foot, including the walking along major roads with no sidewalk and the crossing of a major crossroad where the pedestrian streetlight very rarely turns green. Near the beach there is a nice pedestrian area and theoretically many establishments, but they were all closed and many looked closed for good, not only because it is off-season for italians (it is a pity, so much potential...). No big and famous museum. Enjoyed a nice temperature (20-24C) mid October, unfortunately some rain, but also lots of sun.

Even though the area is residential, the location is great, as you are at a short walking distance away from Catania's sights, which is great. During our stay, we were able to comfortably walk to places, and were close to the train station, which is great, even for traveling to the airport. Also, the staff were very kind and accommodating, and my friend found the boutique element of the hotel charming.

The hotel was only 10 minutes from the airport which was really handy. The hotel itself is beautiful with a lovely pool area and bar. We went to the beach which was just over the road, there are places to get a drink. It’s a short taxi ride into Catania for approximately €20 where there are plenty of places to eat.
