Chiavenna is a very attractive town in northern Italy, rich in historic heritage and framed by beautiful mountains with a variety of hiking opportunities, and of course good food. We stayed there only for two nights. We've been skiing in Madesimo and sleeping in Chiavenna. We didn't spend a lot of time there. We were just passing on our way to sankt moritz, and had to stay, because of a heavy rain. We found a last minute offer in Pianazzola, which is a small village above Chiavenna. That place was absolutely stunning. Old stone houses, beautiful views, magical atmosphere. A renaissance, really. The rooms were modern, very clean and comfortable. You cannot find a better location to visit the center of Chiavenna or to access the beautiful hiking paths. The restaurant was serving delicious food, and I mean with a gourmet character at reasonable price. The Creamy Zucchini Soup was superb.
