During my visit to Gaeta, I was truly impressed by several places in this charming coastal town. I especially loved walking along the seaside promenade and the beautiful avenue of plane trees—it was very relaxing and scenic. The old town with its colorful streets and historic buildings was also a highlight. For a quick bite or a casual meal, there are plenty of great options. I particularly enjoyed the local cafés and restaurants where you can try fresh seafood and traditional Italian dishes. There are also small grocery stores nearby if you prefer to grab something on the go. Getting around Gaeta is quite easy. The town is compact, so most places can be reached on foot, and it’s very pleasant to explore the streets at a leisurely pace. For families with young children, I would highly recommend visiting the beaches, which are clean and safe. A walk along the promenade or a visit to the Spanish Fortress on Monte Orlando is also fun and manageable with kids. Gaeta is a lovely beach town that sits half between Rome and Naples. The beach is flat white sand and superb for swimmers of all ages. Crystal clear waters awaits you. Gaeta is split in two. A bit of a military town (nato and US frigates, etc) but I think Gaeta has something for everyone. Great community, historical sights, and an amazing park with ruins and tunnels. We were looking for an experience that wasn’t wall to wall...
We were looking for an experience that wasn’t wall to wall tourists and Gaeta in September was perfect for that. (Summer is much busier, I’m told.) There was plenty of excellent restaurant choices as well as places to visit. The beach was lovely and we had planned to spend time there; however, we ended up only walking through on our first evening in town. It is a lovely town with friendly people.
