We had the most amazing meal at La Torre restaurant, Giuseppe is an amazing chef. His wife is an amazing host. Our food was of a very high standard and very well presented. I had a glass of red wine that was from the area. I so regret not taking a box home. Absolutely, love our stay. Unfortunately we only stayed one night. Loved going up to Christ the Redeemer it was a fantastic view of the area.Worth the zigzag drive up . We went into the village and down by the boat harbour for dinner . Had the best ever dessert at 1999 ll Ristorante. The food there was amazing . Loved the beach ,the water felt warm , great for swimming. The only thing we found difficult was parking . Beautiful countryside; mountains AND sea. Quiet too. Great for walkers, but if you want to go far afield a car is useful - can be hired in Maratea. Everyone helpful and friendly. not a lot of English spoken (why should they!) but you can get by easily enough. Maratea is a dream destination.
Maratea is a dream destination. A tiny lovely village up in the mountains, stunning beaches and the charm of countryside in between. Safe, welcoming, affordable. Suitable for families and teenagers, there are plenty of boat excursions and water sport facilities so one doesn’t get bored. Social but not too crowded. Will definitely come back! Angela is a fabulous host who greeted us with genuine warmth and joy (and fabulous aperitivo!) Stunning views in a very quiet location. Our room was beautifully decorated, warm and comfortable. Angela prepared the most amazing fresh breakfast for us both mornings - we ate like kings 😍 The local restaurant is also very good and a five minute walk, best fresh fish I've had in Italy. It has a big terrace with a nice view, we ate outside everyday. Inside it's very nicely renovated with lovely decorations. The bed was very comfortable. Everything was clean. We are 2 Students and were traveling through Italy with the train, our host Elio picked us up from the train station and helped us alot with the car and recommendations for visits in the area.
