FAQs about hotels in Palermo

A Symbol of Sicily

Edgy and eclectic, Palermo is a symbol of all that Sicily stands for. From buzzing Vespas to the bustling Vucciria market, it simply brims with life.

Wonderful Palermo Cathedral glows radiantly in the Mediterranean sun. Nearby is the city’s last Sicilian Puppet Theater, and across the street is a palm-filled park housing Roman mosaics, though the best are in the archeological museum. At one end is the Norman Palace, a government building home to the fabulous Cappella Palatina, whose gold mosaics are absolutely breathtaking.

Equally magnificent are the gold mosaics lining the 12th-century Monreale Cathedral on the city’s outskirts. Wander the cloisters and note the varying columns and capitals – each pair is different.

Palermo also has fascinating churches: 2 of the oldest are 12th-century San Giovanni degli Eremeti and San Cataldo, each with red, Islamic-style domes. Gesú Church has an incredible Sicilian Baroque interior, while La Martorana’s frescoes are awe-inspiring. A street away is Quattro Canti, an intersection with a fountain in each corner.

Other attractions include the round Teatro Massimo, Mondello beach and Monte Pellegrino mountain overlooking the sea. You get fabulous views of this picnic spot as you fly into Palermo Airport before heading to your Booking.com accommodations.

Fantastic, full of contradictions, amazing food, friendly people. It's loud and chaotic one minute and calm and quite the next, but normally noisy. try to get off the beaten track and explore the backstreets and try the restaurants you find and definitely eat at the stalls in the markets. Thoroughly recommend it if you want a city break with a bit of adventure.

Stay in the historic centre of Palermo as all the key...

Stay in the historic centre of Palermo as all the key attractions are within walking distance. Only take the taxis if necessary as they are very expensive and journey times slow given the narrow and crowded streets.

We only had an afternoon and night.

We only had an afternoon and night. Would have loved to have had another full day and night. Loved the lovely Ballarò market and other dinner market area. Lovely and bustling city. Does have some graffiti and rubbish etc but if you look past that there is so much charm and history and warmth. But we like a gritty place with character

So much history and things to see and do in Palermo.

So much history and things to see and do in Palermo. The city is very walkable and we loved the fountain of shame, the Quattro Canti and Amazing Chiesa del Gesù. All in easy walking distance We didn’t get to see it all. The shopping, and markets had lots of variety and restaurants were many The port area was a nice variation for change of scenery. Really enjoyed our stay in Palermo

Palermo is a big city for Sicily.

Palermo is a big city for Sicily. It has great local markets and incredible sights, but we spent 6 nights in Sicily (which was arguably too short), three of which were in Catania and three were in Palermo. For our family, it would have been nice to find a place in a small seaside town near the water and to do a couple day trips into the city, but would have been nice to have beach time. While City was beautiful, there was a lot of graffiti and a certain grunge that was disappointing in both Catania and Palermo. We did go to Siracusa and Taurmina each of which might have been nicer bases to stay on the east side of the Island.

Walkable city with amazing architecture.

Walkable city with amazing architecture. It is very chaotic and busy in a good way.we enjoyed the large market near the lodging. Very important to us was the closeness of the bus terminal and the train station.

The place was spacious, clean and nicely decorated. It included a vacuum cleaner, and iron and enough glasses and cups for everyone. The beds were comfortable and we enjoyed the views of urban Sicily life. It was as quiet as Palermo gets with good restaurants and gelaterias (Bagliori is must-visit) close by. Anything in the old city was 10 to 20 min away by foot. Parking the car nearby was also possible with a bit of luck. The guy they hired to take care of us was helpful and did his best for us.

The owner was so lovely and helpful. We landed very late and he waited for us to arrive to let us in. He was so kind. I would recommend accepting the offer of hotel transport for 45 euro as it’s cheaper then a taxi and taxis are hard to get in Palermo. Perfect accom if you are just in between places in Sicily. We landed late, slept and got the train the next morning and it was perfect for this. Wifi isn’t great but that didn’t bother us too much but that might be tricky for some people.

My favourite hotel from my trip, it's an absolute sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of Palermo and slap bang in the middle of the perfect location. The courtyard, breakfast and sauna/indoor pool area (which are free, just need to book and hour slot) we're particular highlights - if I came back to Sicily this would be the first hotel I booked!
