Pistoia is a small town, not Firenze or even the size of Lucca. However, it has amazing architecture and plenty to explore. There are many, many restaurant choices, it's clean, safe and appealing. It's so easy to drive in and walk to the center. Prices are low. We loved the ease of dining after a day of exploring. Pistoia is a great place to visit when you have been visiting all the other major cities in Italy and just want some time out. It is a quieter town, you can walk around within a few hours easily. A gem of a town!
A gem of a town! Lots of wonderful shops, restaurants and bars to choose from. The locals were always kind and patient with my attempt at speaking italian! Great night life, the centre is awash with locals out eating and drinking every night. Wonderful atmospheric largely medieval and early Renaissance City - very compact and walkable. Less than 45 minutes from Florence by train but with less than 1 % of the tourist numbers. Surrounded by wonderful countryside. Beautiful in itself as well as being an ideal touring base at a fraction of the price or congestion of Florence.
