Polignano a Mare was recommended to us during our travel in Italy and we changed our itinerary to get there. It was the best decision we made! This is a stunningly beautiful place to visit and great location to base yourself at. Polignano a Mare is a must see, and from here you can easily visit other areas. We stayed at the beautiful Santo Stefano Bed n Breakfast in the old town. Nice little town, youthful. Lively in the evening. Is not far from Bari airport, you can use also the train. There are many places for eating with good recomandations. People in general goes to the sea in the morning and some until late afternoon. You can visit old town, other beaches near. A beautiful area, lovely setting with the caves and the lovely colour of the water below the cliffs. Boat trips ongoing all day accessing the caves most days. Easily walkable and restaurants not far away. Lots of work going on - possibly reinforcing car park area near the apartment. Lovely roof top restaurant in same street, outdoor trattoria a couple of hundred feet away. Habitat Coffee Shop was a delightful find and not far from the grocery shop. Pretty old town area and access to the newer town - shade and benches were much needed in the heat. Polignano a Mare is a lively little historic town, so quaint and friendly with narrow streets and nice little shops all carved into caves in the old town. The best time to go is when the RedBull Cliff diving competition is on each summer! The atmosphere is electric and the diving is amazing to watch. There isn't a huge amount to do there aside from eating out, pottering around the shops and taking a boat trip to the caves so a few days is plenty but well worth a visit. The hotel is located on the main promenade with next door, the most famous spots of Polignano. The staff is very friendly, especially the lady that greet you upon arrival, she is very sweet. The room was very comfortable, we did appreciate the towels changed every day, the fact that every day we also had more toilet paper, bottles of water, ect. The room was perfectly cleaned everyday and the breakfast at the nearby bar is great. She gives the best advices regarding everything from restaurants to taxi services. Her amazing place is in a perfect spot in the town. My dad is from Taormina in Italy and I was expecting sort of the same but Polignano is actually quite flat (as Italian towns go) which makes it very easily walkable.
