A very hip area with tons and tons of shopping. Most shops small but literally miles(plural) of them. Food choices abound Beaches clean and mature. A very clean bright city with a vibe. Temperature is very moderate but if no clouds it does get hot. Roads are very tight. Good police presence everywhere we went. Just there, not hassling folks. I love Reggio Calabria.
I love Reggio Calabria. It's beautiful and a walk through time. Visiting the Museum is a highlight especially to see I Bronzi di Ricace. The famous statues that were discovered in the ocean in the 1970's that are almost fully intact. There are also palaces to see as well. If you have time to take a day trip you can visit the ancient city of Gerace. You definitely need to have stamina to walk up the mountain. The locals there seem to live in an ancient time. Italy is never enough.
Italy is never enough. This was our first time in this region, and we certainly will come back. A fantastic Museo Archeologico is absolutely a must. I suppose in the summer it must be beautiful. Reggio Calabria is a great place to stay. Good bars, restaurants, shops and amenities. Superb views across the Strait of Messina to Sicily from beachside bars. It’s also a great base. We travelled to Tropea by train and Messina in Sicily by ferry - both great day trips - and transport is cheap compared to the UK. Prices in bars and restaurants in Calabria were good. The room was clean, and especially the bathroom was quite modern since it had been recently renovated. The main reason why I booked Charm Hotel was due to the location very close to the airport terminal, which was super convenient. When we arrived, we noticed that the staff were improving the decorations, so I'm sure this hotel will continue to improve since it's being actively maintained. Everywhere is walkable and the airport is a short bus ride away. We were so close to the train station so we could easily take the train to Scilla or Tropea.
