We arrived from the Netherlands, but we both are Hungarians, so we needed to get used with the Italian lifestyle, like the siesta time, when there almost nothing is opened to get some food or drink. In exchange the places like restaurants are opened till late night. Winter is definitely not a good time to visit San Leone as most of it is closed. It looked run-down and in need of a face lift. There was litter everywhere. The roads and pavements are all in urgent need of repair, with serious potholes and uneven surfaces, but this endemic in Sicily. San Leone is a perfect sea side town, with very few tourists. Easy to get to via train and then taxi. It was a short cab ride from Valley of the Temples and had lots of amazing beach bars and restaurants within walking distance of our hotel. Don't go in early August as it is too crowded. I've been to Italy many times, but the quality of the food was disappointing in this part of Sicily. Surprisingly, as I have always found Italians to be lovely and polite people, this is the first time we found consistently rude and impatient people. Next to it you can find a lot of restaurants and just next to it is promenade. The owners were really great people. They met us, gave the map with tips how to better manage our trip to local tourist places and in the morning you can try local Sicilian treats from the owner’s garden with tasty coffee.
