Santa Marinella is close to Rome.
Santa Marinella is close to Rome. Trains are frequent and take less than one hour. It is very popular in the summer months for Italian visitors. You have a good selection of beaches, that mostly charge from €35 to €50 per day (08:45am-19:00) for two sun loungers and one umbrella. The beaches are very clean and well maintained. I speak Italian but some staff speak English. Bars and restaurants surround the beach so you have a good choice. Via Aurelia is closeby with plenty of shops and a very welcoming airconditioned supermarket, Conad. I revisited Santa Marinella having lived there many years ago. Some things have changed but overall, a lovely place to visit with or without family. I would highly recommend. It is recommended to book months in advance as tourists return every year. Places I recommend you stay are Maison Suite in via Aurelia or Hotel Cavalluccio Marino overlooking the beautiful sea. This property was small, and close to Citavecchia, the port for Rome) the staff very fabulous, and the breakfast was amazing thank you. The rooms were tired, bathroom in the suite was not user friendly, and the beds were sooooo hard. Loved that the property was on the beach, but we had to learn the "rock waddle" to get over the rocks and into the water. The ocean was cool and very clean. This was a last-minute decision, and we loved it. I wish we had longer to explore. It's a great place to rest and unwind. It was easy to get around by walking; however, as it was not peak time, it was impossible to get a taxi. Santa Marinella is a very quiet town, with very few food options at the time I visited, second week of April. I feel that the beach and bay area could be renovated to be more welcoming. This was a pleasant place to spend a few days before taking a cruise from Civitiveccia which is just one rail stop away. Winter temperatures were excellent for walking around the resort and visiting adjacent towns by rail. We had to leave earlier as we could not bear anymore the circumstances, strange smell in the building as well… Maybe as a positive I can mention that it is just a train ride to Rome and the town has good beaches, but the water is very dirty unfortunately.
