    Hakodate per se is a quaint lite town, whose main attractions can be visited in one day. However, it can serve as a hub for exploring southern Hokkaido as it has all the necessary services. Food is certaiy a plus, particularly seafood, and prices are lower than elsewhere. Also, compared to larger towns on Honshu, it has a frontier-type of vibe.

    Hakodate is a beautiful scenic town surrounded by mountains.

    Hakodate is a beautiful scenic town surrounded by mountains. It's right on the port so lovely for a summers day. We enjoyed our 3 days here, going up Mt Hakodate and walking around the pretty streets. It would be a beautiful spot in Winter when there is snow.

    The people in Hakodate are kind and friendly.

    The people in Hakodate are kind and friendly. There is much to see and do especially in the Spring season. Travelling around on the tram was very convenient. We really enjoyed Goryokaku Park, Mt Hakodate and Hakodate Park. Also enjoyed Morning Fish Market, Museum Ship Red brick Warehouese. Places of interest included Old Public Hall of Hakodate and Museum of Northern Peoples. The fish market in early morning and salt ramen very good.

    If you don't go further than the station/port area, it is a massive tourist trap that feels like it was tailor made for cruise ships. When a RC cruise was in, it was horrible. Even without cruise passengers swarming, it is already very touristy, but one can still find nice spots.

    Hakodate was definitely our favorite visited city on our 3-week trip to Japan. The crowds were non-existent and the city was easily walkable or easily navigated by streetcar and bus. We were here before the May Sakura bloom and would love to return at another time to experience this as well.

    We were only in Hakodate for one night, but we were able to explore the fish market and also to ride the Mt. Hakodate Ropeway for a spectacular view. We easily found a good restaurant within walking distance of the hotel.

    Tokyu Stay is an excellent hotel located within walking distance of Hakodate Central Station. The rooms are modern, clean and comfortable with each containing a washer/dryer unit and good Wi-Fi. The best thing about the hotel is the top floor open air onsen with views of the city and port. I really enjoyed my stay at Tokyu Stay and doubt there's a better option in this price range in Hakodate.

    Very affordable room with very helpful staff. We booked the hotel for a one night stay in Hakodate as we wanted to visit the morning market. We took the opportunity to do laundry which only cost €2 for a wash & dry. Reception will call you when the load is finished & offered to fold our last load as we were going out. Parking and access was easy.

    Just in front Hakodate Station, 5 minutes walking to morning market , nearby a lot restaurants can go. Breakfast at hotel is one of the best among those hotels that I had stayed before at Japan. There are 6 (if not mistaken) coin washing machines at lobby floor easier for tourists.

    The location is great as it’s right next to Hakodate station and the tram station is nearby. There are many restaurants next to the hotel. The room was relatively spacious and the bath room has a washing space next to a tub.

    The hotel is super close to JR Hakodate Station and a tram stop. The room was clean and the staff was very kind, they told us that the hotel is a bit crowded at the moment, but at the end this was not a problem.
