Having spent 10 days in Tokyo I was thrilled to arrive in Kanazawa (via bullet train) and notice straight away how it was "quiet"...less people on the streets, less humid (nice relief) and overall the city operated at a slower pace - a nice reprieve. Also, a great city to walk around - all of the tourist attractions, I think, are within a few miles so no need for buses / taxi's etc. I would highly recommend for a 2 day visit - not sure if more is required to hit the main tourist sites.Guest review byYvonneIreland - 10.0

Small, but perfectly formed.Fantastic boutique hotel in a brilliant location. We booked a superior family room, although there was just the two of us, knowing from previous trips to Japan that space is at a premium and for longer stays a bit more space makes a big difference. The breakfast, traditional Japanese style was one of the best we’ve ever had, simple delicious and beautifully presented. Last but not least the staff, welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. Plenty of historic buildings and areas within the city. A great assortment of dining options. Including in and around Omicho Market. Well placed to explore the surrounding area (I chose to walk and use public transport, a hire car would have given even more options). A relaxed city. Kanazawa is incredibly beautiful and felt like an underrated gem when we went there, as there were virtually no other tourists and the city was very calm and quiet. Lots of things to do, see and explore, and it kind of gives off similar vibes to Kyoto (with the historical districts and the river flowing through the city) but without the crowds. We had an amazing time there and would definitely return. We mostly walked everywhere because every street was gorgeous to look at. I recommend to visit the Kanazawa Castle and the garden next to it, the historical chaya districts (there are multiple) and the Oyama Shrine grounds. The hotel provides you yukata for men and kimono for women, and you can keep them if you like (we did!). Breakfast was good but not great. The traditional Japanese style room was excellent with a small sitting area, which was quite pleasant. The staff was excellent and made us feel quite welcome.
