Ezo house has lots of character. The shared area was more than sufficient for our group of six. The rooms were very homey, comfortable and well kept. It’s easy to see the owner cares a lot. And there’s a cat!

Art Inn is a truly unique residence. The rooms themselves are a visual treat, and the rest of the property is covered in artworks you can check out during your stay. The staff are extremely friendly, and make their best efforts to communicate in English if required. Each room is afforded a private outdoor onsen, one of the few relatively affordable places you can secure such a privilege. The water in this onsen is quite acidic, so just be careful not to lose track of time in the bath, quite the risk due to the tranquil riverside location. The area has a really top notch izakaya nearby - and it's a joy to have incredible artworks, a private onsen, and delicious food all available so close at hand. The izakaya always fills up quickly, so be sure to get there early, but it's only a five minute walk from the inn, so that's no problem at all. There are beautiful natural sites in the surrounding area as well, with Kami-no-ko-ike being the stand-out, only a short drive away.

The staff was really wonderful: we needed help and they helped beyond expectations! Lovely! Thank you! The breakfast was a set but really great! Good quality. In the evening we also ate in house and it was more than correct. Nearby station and sulphur mountain.

Asanebou Inn is a fantastic place. The hosts are amazing - it really felt like I was part of the family! The meals are scrumptious, the rooms are cozy, the nearby onsen is stellar. I highly recommend anyone passing through Kawayu to stay here, whether travelling alone or in a group. A++

One of the Exceptional experience while we were traveling along east part of Hokkaido. Happy hours at bar is great. Dinner was buffet. We enjoyed really fresh food with loads of choices. Superb and amazing.

Whilst the public areas reflect the age of the hotel and years of wear and tear, the room I occupied was in pretty good condition. The room was spacious and had all the requisite facilities. It was delightfully warm and cosy all the time. The onsen is a fine facility despite its age and has 4 or 5 baths of varying temperatures. Breakfast was a buffet with a reasonable choice of dishes and started at 6.30, so plenty of opportunity for the quick getaway afterwards. The hotel is also close to a number of pretty decent restaurants. Overall, I enjoyed my 3 nights in this hotel. It's good value for money and a much more affordable alternative than the hotels on either Lake Akan or Lake Kussharo.
