It left me speechless, fortunately it is still an unspoiled island that unlike Japan they should keep it a little cleaner because it deserves. You can turn it all around in the car and you can see places where there is no one. It was a really nice discovery, we would have been there for another 2/3 more days. It is connected with bridges to 3 smaller islands all to be discovered. I recommend activities such as snorkeling, dive and sup to see the splendid seabed with colorful fish, opulps, manta rays and sharks.Guest review byElenaItaly - 10.0

This has been the best island that we have visited to date very clean great beaches and plenty to see Traveling around was easy as roads are good, Sat Nav in rental car was a bit hit and miss There different colors of the sea are a must to see and take pictures We were very lucky had a BBQ at a popular beach and it happened to be a very good place to see a sunset that eveningGuest review byMorishita - 8.0

The center city is not very lively or pretty. The island is rather rural with lots of banana, tobacco, and sugar cane plots. However, the suburb areas near the beaches are beautiful. I would recommend a resort as the available activities are limited to outdoors and dining. A car is required to get around. Wonderful and beautiful place, the color of the sea amazing, many interesting sites to visit BUT you NEED a car (to rent a car). The public transportation is almost non existent (there is a bus to the airport). The island is too big for the bicycle, and too hilly.Guest review byBeataPoland

Staff were so helpful during my visit, (although questions asked before arrival were not answered). Only Japanese spoken, which is fine - used google translate! The staff helped by taking my luggage to my room, which I really appreciated. Didn't have breakfast so can't comment. The owner helped me hire a car - essential to see the island and surrounding islands. Make sure you have an International Driving Permit for Japan! Locals doing the wooden boat rowing is cool to watch. Loved having an ocean view even if it’s just a port. Didn’t take long to walk to main area of Hirara. All the polished concrete gives a modern hotel feel, esp the beautiful small pool area with indoor lounge. No other guests used it, so we used it every day and had it all to ourselves. The place is very clean and has all the amenities you need for a short/long stay. The snorkelling tour and the tour around the island were very good - Atsushi took us to some very cool spots which I may not have found on Google maps.
