Because I got in late from doing the big bike ride over from Imabari, I was left with little time or energy to explore Onomichi. However, I did do some of the temple tour in the morning and it was excellent. I recommend taking the "ropeway" (I'd call it a cable car) to the hilltop and work your way down. Onomichi was a quiet town with lots of small alleys to explore. One full day should be enough to get a taste of the location for younger travelers. Such a beautiful little town with really friendly residents who genuinely welcome and enjoy travellers. Lots to do in the day, a bit quite at night though so don’t rely on there being restaurants open for dinner. I loved Onomichi. I only spent one day and one night there before beginning the Shimanami Kaido cycle, but I wish I’d stayed and relaxed a bit more is this wonderful town. The temple walk was worth the views, cat alley was unique and worth seeing, I loved just grabbing a coffee or pastry and sitting on the pier to enjoy the view.Guest review byNinaIreland - 10.0
Expect lot's of walking.
Expect lot's of walking. There is something to see around every corner - or up every hill. Weather permitting it is a must. Not sure it would be much fun in the rain, unless you love shopping and eating sushi :-)Guest review byAnonymous

It is a small room, but perfect for a short stay before starting the Shimanami Kaido. We arranged to have our luggage transferred through the hotel staff, they were very helpful (note that if you are transferring luggage to Imabari Station, collection time is between 6pm and 8pm only). Would definitely come back again to Onomichi and to this accommodation. Just beware a plenty of steps to get here. Very beautiful accomodation, sensitive but modern-looking reconstruction of a traditional house. Decently equipped bathroom and kitchen. We stayed for three nights in a double room with shared bathroom. The shared facilities are spotless and offer good privacy. Onomichi is a small town and although the Hotel is not in the center everything is in walking distance. We enjoyed a lovely evening at the bar chatting with Cho, the owner and fellow guests.
