An excellent hotel with an interesting and modern design and interior. Centrally located and walking distance from the railway station, it’s actually located on the old Nakasendo route! Very courteous and welcoming staff who we’re always happy to help and assist with our requests. Rooms were well appointed and more spacious than we’d come to expect, and larger beds (we did upgrade to a twin, which I’d recommend if you prefer a bit more room). Great Onsen on the top floor which is highly recommended after doing a section of the Nakasendo. Overall this is an excellent hotel which is good value offering a lot more than you’d expect in this price range elsewhere. We really enjoyed our stay in Nakatsugawa and our stay at this wonderful hotel! would love to revisit!

What a pleasure to stay at Guesthouse SHIGI. I had the chance to have this beautiful, tastefully decorated old house all by myself on the night I stayed there. I loved having my breakfast in the big sunny kitchen with stunning views on the mountains and traditional garden while listening to cool vinyls on the record player. In addition to having an eye for (vintage) detail, the owners are also super friendly and make good recommendations. Atsushi san offered to drive me to Magome as I was planning to hike the Nakasendo trail and I also had a really great night following his advice to go for a beer at the nearby Cafe & Second Hand Shop 42! Awesome (ᵔ◡ᵔ)

Great place. You have the place for yourself, so it is especially good for larger groups. Kitchen, living room, a lot of space. Also a great start for Nakasendo if you are planning to go. Do not take a bus to Magome, instead, start walking from Ochiai (中山道石標), so you won't miss the cobblestone path.
