Beautiful restored traditional Japanese home. Spacious, clean and well furnished. The small garden was wonderful as was the delightful welcome we received. Right in the centre of Shimabara and close to all the sights. The town doesn’t appear on many of the tourist sites but is well worth seeking out as a more traditional Japanese town. We even managed to find a great little local place to eat and navigate the menu in Japanese! Fabulous stay, perfect little home and wished we could have stayed longer.

Spacious room, excellent self laundry (so many of them and very efficient), good breakfast with a view. The staff are very helpful and they can remember your room number! The photo might not look very appealing on booking.com, but it actually looks much better than the photo! The place is very well maintained.

Great place to base yourself while exploring Unzen. Simple, spacious room offering everything needed including free hot water for making tea and basic cooking facilities in shared area. Best of all was the wonderful view over the lake. Great value for money. The owner is very welcoming and friendly and speaks good English so communication is easy.

Great view of the forests and the water reservoir. You also have a Japanese style room where you can have tea for example. There is a small corner with microwave, kettle, sink, a seating area and a fridge with some drinks to buy, you can have breakfast there. Extremely kind owner, downstairs is a coworking space so you can meet all kinds of people. The grocery store and restaurants are a 10-minute walk. Breakfast options are limited in the village and most places only open at 9:00, so stock up on some pastries from the grocery store at the main bus stop. For dinner, Kinugasa cafeteria is highly recommended, they also have vegetarian options, which the other places usually do not. If you want to try a little bit more posh spa other than the traditional public baths, try Unzen Onsen Seiunso Hotel which is around 30 minutes walk or a 10 minute bus ride (the bus terminus is right in front of the hotel). It has both an internal and external spa area. Enjoy!

The rooms were surprisingly very spacious ! We had a lounging space which was separated from the bedroom, and a good size balcony that looked out into the sunset over the sea. There were adequate sockets for charging. A multi-type cable was provided too with ready USB ports. The hotel looks new too. They provide drinks at the lobby. Also, light breakfast too. The onsen in the hotel was under maintenance when we were there but they arranged for a nearby onsen for us as an alternative. We had a very happy stay and will recommend this highly to anyone coming round to Obama !
