FAQs about hotels in Tokyo

See It to Believe It!

The capital of Japan, Tokyo is a vast, teeming metropolis nestled between mountains and Tokyo Bay. It’s so huge that you’ll have to come to grips with public transport and maybe even experience being pushed onto a train. Yes, it does actually happen!

Get your bearings by ascending the Tokyo World Trade Centre near the waterfront, and savour the fantastic views taking in the red-and-white Tokyo Tower and Shinkuju’s skyscrapers. North is Ueno, home to the best museums (including the Tokyo National Museum) and a large park bursting with cherry blossom in spring.

Equally tranquil are the Chiyoda Imperial Palace and Gardens, surrounded by water. Also in gardens is the Meiji Jingu Shinto shrine in Shibuya, a youthful district where neon abounds.

For more traditional Japanese culture, head to Asakusa whose Sensō-ji Buddhist temple is Tokyo’s oldest temple. Markets in the grounds sell a variety of wares, though shopping in Tokyo is, of course, fantastic wherever you go.

Whether you stay in a Japanese ryokan, luxury Tokyo hotel or a hostel, don’t fly out of Tokyo Narita Airport or Haneda Airport without having tried sushi. Another Japanese institution is the sento (public bath) and onsen (hot springs bath) – a must try. Also incredibly popular are Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, Asia’s 2 most visited theme parks.

Tokyo is a very interesting & entertaining city.

Tokyo is a very interesting & entertaining city. I took some tours and thoroughly enjoyed them. This is not my first time in Tokyo, and there is still so much to see. I would return in a drop of a hat and spend more time here in Tokyo.

We stayed for 8 days in Tokyo but based ourselves at 1 Hotel. In hindsight I would move about to experience more of the neighborhoods, selecting Hotels near the Yaminoto train loop. We have stayed at a Nikko Hotel and it was first rate so I would look at that chain for accommodation. Once we mastered the ticket machines, we found the train system easy to navigate and we explored many different parts of Tokyo. We also did our own trip to Lake Kowaguchiko by train to see Mt Fuji, which was easily done. One thing to note when using Shinkansen trains and the Tokyo Stations, you need to put in all of the tickets you are given into the station gates to exit the station or the barriers won’t open.

Safe to walk at night or day as a solo traveler.

Safe to walk at night or day as a solo traveler. Bustling, huge city of pleasant people, great restaurants with variety, fun shopping, beautiful peaceful shrines and gardens. Gardens on rooftops, too. Luxury shopping in the Ginza but also small local shops to discover and explore. Transportation options with trains and subways abound. Many other memorable towns and sites for day trips nearby. I loved it and would go back to Japan any time. I loved the range of affordable food choices, from convenience stores with yummy snacks, to simple rice plate food, to more upscale offerings. A visual treat too, of bright graphic signs and night lights.

    Lots to do.

Lots to do. Enjoyed walking around & experiencing the people, sites, food & entertainment. So much variety to choose from in food & shopping. Shibuya Crossing & Hatchiko were a highlight. The Kobe beef was our favourite.

So easy to get around either by walking or train. Safe and friendly and value for money. Lots to do and see. The weather is still very warm and humid end of September around 29 degrees, but all places are Aircond. We had a super time and will go again

We loved the location, very close to lots of restaurants, lively nightlife and lots do to in the area. You get to experience the shinjuku nightlife, with walking distance to lots of restaurants, bars and arcades, the Godzilla statue, and easily accessible to Shibuya and Harajuku by train. The staff were lovely and helpful, hotel room was clean and cozy. Small but equipped with a nice bathroom and shower that comes with a separate bath tub. It was great that we were able to store our luggage there for the day of check out as well.

There's plenty to do in Asakusa - heaps of food/nightlife and shopping options without being quite as hectic as Shinjuku and Shibuya. Koko hotel is in a nice quiet street away from the hustle and bustle but only a short walk (10 mins?) from the main shopping and eating areas and the Sensoji shrine and Nakamise street. Staff were helpful and friendly. Nice lobby. Clean, tidy, comfortable and modern room. Slept 5 of us (Japanese style in the one room).

The hotel is located 5 minutes walk for a train station that will take you to Shibuya, Shinjuku and every place in the center of Tokyo. The neighbourhood itself is quite and not so close to the city center, but has everything you need - restaurants, shops and more. 7/11 is right across the street of the hotel. The staff were kind, although they didn't speak much English. Sending luggage services are right around the corner.

The hotel is conveniently located near a subway station with direct connections to Shibuya and other popular tourist spots. In addition, Shinjuku-ku offers plenty of interesting places to explore. I booked my stay with breakfast included, and I absolutely recommend it—the breakfast is excellent and gives you the perfect energy boost to start the day.
