FAQs about hotels in Tokyo

See It to Believe It!

The capital of Japan, Tokyo is a vast, teeming metropolis nestled between mountains and Tokyo Bay. It’s so huge that you’ll have to come to grips with public transport and maybe even experience being pushed onto a train. Yes, it does actually happen!

Get your bearings by ascending the Tokyo World Trade Center near the waterfront, and savor the fantastic views taking in the red-and-white Tokyo Tower and Shinkuju’s skyscrapers. North is Ueno, home to the best museums (including the Tokyo National Museum) and a large park bursting with cherry blossom in spring.

Equally tranquil are the Chiyoda Imperial Palace and Gardens, surrounded by water. Also in gardens is the Meiji Jingu Shinto shrine in Shibuya, a youthful district where neon abounds.

For more traditional Japanese culture, head to Asakusa whose Sensō-ji Buddhist temple is Tokyo’s oldest temple. Outdoor markets sell a variety of wares, though shopping in Tokyo is, of course, fantastic wherever you go.

Whether you stay in a Japanese ryokan, luxury Tokyo hotel or a hostel, don’t fly out of Tokyo Narita Airport or Haneda Airport without having tried sushi. Another Japanese institution is the sento (public bath) and onsen (hot springs bath) – a must try. Also incredibly popular are Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, Asia’s 2 most visited theme parks.

Tokyo is a very interesting & entertaining city.

Tokyo is a very interesting & entertaining city. I took some tours and thoroughly enjoyed them. This is not my first time in Tokyo, and there is still so much to see. I would return in a drop of a hat and spend more time here in Tokyo.

We stayed for 8 days in Tokyo but based ourselves at 1 Hotel. In hindsight I would move about to experience more of the neighborhoods, selecting Hotels near the Yaminoto train loop. We have stayed at a Nikko Hotel and it was first rate so I would look at that chain for accommodation. Once we mastered the ticket machines, we found the train system easy to navigate and we explored many different parts of Tokyo. We also did our own trip to Lake Kowaguchiko by train to see Mt Fuji, which was easily done. One thing to note when using Shinkansen trains and the Tokyo Stations, you need to put in all of the tickets you are given into the station gates to exit the station or the barriers won’t open.

Safe to walk at night or day as a solo traveler.

Safe to walk at night or day as a solo traveler. Bustling, huge city of pleasant people, great restaurants with variety, fun shopping, beautiful peaceful shrines and gardens. Gardens on rooftops, too. Luxury shopping in the Ginza but also small local shops to discover and explore. Transportation options with trains and subways abound. Many other memorable towns and sites for day trips nearby. I loved it and would go back to Japan any time. I loved the range of affordable food choices, from convenience stores with yummy snacks, to simple rice plate food, to more upscale offerings. A visual treat too, of bright graphic signs and night lights.

Lots to do. Enjoyed walking around & experiencing the people, sites, food & entertainment. So much variety to choose from in food & shopping. Shibuya Crossing & Hatchiko were a highlight. The Kobe beef was our favourite.

So easy to get around either by walking or train. Safe and friendly and value for money. Lots to do and see. The weather is still very warm and humid end of September around 29 degrees, but all places are Aircond. We had a super time and will go again

Stayed 4th time in this hotel, really good localization (direct train to and from Narita, 2 metro stops from shinkansen stations), neibourhood is not crowded and really nice, one of the cheapest prices for that standard in Tokyo and still close to Akihabara, Ueno, Chiyoda, Odaiba, Meguro and Shibuya, all below 1h train trip. Hotel have wide beds, so even if you're tall you can manage to sleep comfortable. Service always at top notch, helpful, clean rooms and corridors. On 1F there is laundry and mini convenience store with microwave.

This hotel is a perfect mix of modern comfort, excellent location, friendly and skilled staff with the charm of a "ryokan" decoration and atmosphere. Breakfasts were fresh, varied and good value for money and the staff could help us with all of our requests (taxi, dietary requirement, extra matress etc.). One subway station is 5 min away, 1 really useful train station 15 min away and Yanesen and Ueno Park at walkable distance. If we had to plan our trip again we would definitely stay at the Edo Sakura!

The location was perfect. I chose this Hotel because of its nearby location to Zepp Shinjuku, Kabukicho Tower, where my Favourite Finnish band Turmion Kätilöt were playing, which was less than 50m across the road. All the restaurants and bars within a 5 block radius make choosing where to eat very difficult, but the TV in the room was very helpful for recommendations. Easy walking distance to Shinjuku train station.
