While the retreat is somewhat remote, the journey is absolutely worth it and it adds to the experience. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the very friendly and attentive staff. Everything at Ferndale is designed to offer a personal and intimate experience. The small-scale setting and personalized service make the stay truly unique. Ferndale’s philosophy is rooted in nature and respect for the ecosystem. It is a luxury hotel where sustainability and eco-friendliness take top priority. All food is locally and organically sourced, adding to the authenticity of the experience. We also had the opportunity to meet the owner, who shared his vision with great passion and pride, making us appreciate the concept even more. The retreat is located in the breathtaking Knuckles Mountain Range, near Kandy. The untouched nature makes it a perfect destination for stunning hikes, which are thoughtfully organized by the team. Along the trails, you can discover hidden waterfalls and encounter unique endemic wildlife. Lastly, we must highlight the outstanding service and incredible food. The staff goes the extra mile to make your stay unforgettable. The meals are amazing because of the freshness of the ingredients and the dedication put into every dish. Make sure to try the icecream :-)! For anyone who loves nature, tranquility, and warm, personal hospitality, we can wholeheartedly recommend this place.

The room was neat and bathroom clean enough. The caretaker Pereira was extremely helpful. There is no breakfast or food service, plates and cutlery are available. The family room was spacious, a double bed in 1 room and a single bed in the other smaller portion. Quiet and good for sleep.

A wonderful place to stay to visit Pallekelle Stadium and Trinity Rugby grounds. If visiting Kandy ideal quiet place away from the Hustle and bustle of Kandy town. Kandy city is about 30 minutes away by Bus or car. It is a very clean quiet place with very friendly and helpful owners and staff. Excellent value for the Room rates charged. Food was Reasonably priced and very tasty. We ordered Sri Lankan Lunch and Dinner. Bytes for snacks was excellent. Very well made Sri Lankan Tea. Towels and Soap were provided. Beautiful view of the Kandy Hantane Mountains Range. The place is located 100 Meters from the Kandy to Mahiyangana Road.

This is not just a place to stay — it’s a genuine experience, deeply connected to nature and to the heartfelt hospitality of Sri Lanka. The location is simply enchanting: a peaceful haven surrounded by lush greenery, breathtaking views, and a profound sense of serenity. Every detail, from the common areas to the rooms, is designed with care and respect for the environment, creating perfect harmony with the surrounding landscape. The staff was amazing. It is a married couple who run the place, and they were both super helpful with finding places to go and everything we needed. The place was very clean, and they have a small kitchen you can use if you like. They can fix breakfast and dinner if you like, we only got the breakfast and it was delicious and plenty of food. The location is a bit of the big road, but transport is very easy to come by here and I therefore don't see a problem with it. I can definitely recommend this too everyone travelling in the area and looking for a nice place to stay where you get a lot for your money! :)
