We are a Belgian family (father and 2 adult children) travelling through Sri Lanka in summer 2023. Looking for a hotel at walking distance from the Horton Plains National Park we ended up in the Hill Safari Tea Estate Hotel. At the Ohiya train station (approx. 5 km from the hotel) we were picked up by the owner, Mr Perera, who was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the site. The hotel, located in a tea plantation, has a fantastic view on the Sri Lankan lowlands (comparable to that at World’s End). Just note that the hotel is quite remotely located and therefore food is taken on site (food is excellent!). We organized a trip to the Horton Plains, going (early morning) by tuktuk and returning by foot (watch out for sunburn on the way back!). We can only be (very) positive about the hotel, the owners, and the staff.

For a simple authentic experience with great management and service you should stay here. Food is cooked fresh and the manager is lovely. We stayed a night and had dinner, breakfast and lunch. Rooms are simple but with a hot shower and very quiet. The other hotels near charge a lot but seem to have less soul!

This was a standout stay in our honeymoon in Sri Lanka. The location in Ohiya is beautiful and handy for walks (we did a part of the Pekoe trial which was amazing!). But mainly due to the excellent hospitality of the hosts. When we arrived we were wet and cold and they immediately brought us tea, we had hot showers and they organised dinner for us. The food was delicious and we had a really nice evening in the jungle cafe/restaurant/bar near the lodge with a few strong beers 😅 and a cute dog! The hosts packed a breakfast for us as we were leaving early for our walk, and even got up to prepare us tea before we went. We felt so at home, wish we stayed longer!

Nice hotel. Basic room, but the owners were really friendly and good. They made me a big dinner, arranged a Tuk Tuk to get to World’s End and gave me a packed lunch. Ohiya is also a nice location. Recommended if you’re there.

The hotel is situated on a hill overlooking 24 hectares of tea plantation, surrounded by luscious mountains. It is the perfect combination of peace and isolation amidst a breathtaking scenery. The hotel staff are very attentive to guests’ needs - be it booking car transfers or showing the best hike routes in the area. This place is a gem and we look forward to coming back.

We visited Horton Plains and were looking for a place that felt safe, peaceful, and like home — and Tea Sprig Villa Boralanda was the perfect find! This is one of the newest and safest villas in the area, and from the moment we arrived, we felt completely at home. We stayed for 2 nights, and what made this place even more special is that we were their very first guests — what an honor! 🙏 The family running the villa is super friendly, warm, and caring. The food was absolutely delicious, fresh, and made with so much love. The clean fresh air, hot water, and beautiful surroundings made us feel like we were in heaven.     Almost everything.

    Almost everything. Location was close to Horton Plains and the owners arranged a tuk tuk ride for a nominal fee. Lovely surrounding. Food was tasty and ample given. Really worth it. Owners were friendly and made the guests feel at home.

    Everything! The room was nicely done and very comfortable All the little things that you take for granted elsewhere were met - good linen, comfy bed, good water pressure and surprisingly, the best and fastest wifi we have found in Sri Lanka!     The family was very warm and welcoming. The room is part of the home, making for an intimate experience. The home had a nice view of the surrounding area and the dinner and breakfast was tasty Sri Lankan cuisine. The family also gave us a recommendation for a local walk which we really enjoyed.     Wonderfull host, he made me a very varied tasty meal with vegetables he had grown by himself! There is a small restaurant/bar, the jungle resort has some "hippie vibes" with the cool staircase full of flowers and lights. In the rooms there is everything you need: bed, warm shower, toilet, ...

    The main employer cooks the best food in all of sri lanka! I already miss the delicious rice and curry! It was clean and a friendly environment. You live a little of shore but very close to the train station. That is very practical.

    Close to Ohiya train station. Sheets were clean. Water in the shower was warm, but water pressure low. Three wheeler was available for trip to Horton’s Plains. Dinner and breakfast to go is possible.
