Everything was perfect. The staffs were super nice and kind(especially Muhammad, thanks!). The hotel staff picked me up when I arrived, and took me to the meeting point on my last day going to another city. Fes medina is not an easy place to find a way, so it was very helpful! (Other hotels don’t do that unless you pay more). My room was pretty big, and the facilities were in a good condition. The location couldn’t be better.

The LOCATION WAS PERFECT. The hotel is walking distance from the souks, food and ATMs. No need for a taxi but when we wanted a taxi we got one ASAP! The staff were beyond helpful and attentive and we couldn’t have asked for more! Younnes at the front desk was the best. The manager (apologies, forgot her name) of the hotel also helped us to find an Amazing restaurant on our last night. I wish that more hotels provided this level of service. Our room had a pool view, a complete breakfast, and we also had staff available for every question, which was helpful considering that we didn’t speak French. The doors of the hotel feel like royalty, a lovely stay in Fes❣️

Fès is a kaleidoscope of colours, smells and sensations, and its intricate urban design is an allegory of its own identity. Live up to the pace of this ancient Babel, and go the whole hog immerging yourself into its 1001 Nights atmosphere. Check out the Booking.com hotel deals in fascinating Fès and enjoy!

Commonly spelled Fez, this city was Morocco’s capital during Middle Ages. The city was originally composed of two separate settlements located along the banks of the Jawhar River. Madinat Fas was founded in 789 by Idris I, while Al-'Aliya was founded by his son Idris II. Both towns grew autonomously until the Almoravids unified them in 1070 under the name ‘Fas’. The city is still considered a beacon of the Islamic civilisation, due to its ancient ‘madrasas’ Islamic colleges.

The Old Town or ‘medina’ has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, representing one of the best preserved historic centres in the world. The famous ‘riads’ or small traditional hotels are located in the medina, which is also called Fes Al-Bali.

The city can be reached through Fès Saïss Airport, or from the airports in Casablanca and Rabat via railway or bus connection. Whether you’re looking for a luxury hotel in Fez New Town or a historic ‘riad’ in the medina, don’t miss Booking.com’s wide offering!

There were a lot of artisans which was nice.

There were a lot of artisans which was nice. We were often set upon by people trying to take us somewhere and wanting money, even when we said no they wouldn’t leave us alone. After a time we didn’t stop anywhere which really was a shame. The amount of garbage was also quite distressing and took away from some of the sights. We took a tour to the middle Atlas Mountains which was really lovely. The food was good everywhere we ate in the Medina.

The issue was that I booked accommodation in the old medina which is a labyrinth. This leaves tourists being constantly harassed by locals trying to scam money from them or deliberately deceiving them about closed streets, etc. Skip Fez and go to Marrakech and Essouira. So much better without all the hassles:)

Loved the beautiful artisanal crafts and decor everywhere.

Loved the beautiful artisanal crafts and decor everywhere. Love this place for its connection to history. What I didn’t like was how the people living in the medina would lie about roads being closed, keep trying to befriend you in a fake way do they can lead you anywhere then fight about tips. I also really disliked the obscene tourist pricing in the markets. Artisans and shop kerpers mark up items 4, 5 or more times what the price of the item should be. A lot of deception and trickery when selling.

Fez's market is huge and overwhelming.

Fez's market is huge and overwhelming. We had a guide and driver for our 1 day which was perfect. The only thing that was hard for me is that so much of the mid/late day with the guide was focused on the various crafts they make - leather, Berber rugs, cactus silk scarves (and even though the guide kept saying there was no obligation to buy anything, I kept feeling like I was getting pushed to buy - which as a minimalist is a pretty uncomfortable place for me). We had an amazing dinner at Ishq. The lamb shoulder will be in my top 5 lifetime memorable meals. Walking in the medina seems very difficult. We tried to walk to dinner (should have been 8 minutes), got lost, an old woman eventually led us out and found the general area of the restaurant and we tipped her/thanked her profusely as it felt like we were in a maze that we would never find our way out of. For what it's worth, I was reading The Sheltered Sky over the course of this trip.

If I were to rank the popular touristic cities in Morocco,...

If I were to rank the popular touristic cities in Morocco, Fès is unquestionably our favourite. The people are genuine and friendly. You are not constantly pestered by touts and the vibe is the most authentic, especially in the medina. The Chouara Tannery was my top experience. My advice is to book a half-day private tour of the sights in the medina, our guide was knowledgeable, passionate and super kind. If you have more time, do a full day one and you can visit the Jewish quarter and Marinid Tombs, although they are only a taxi ride away.

We enormously enjoyed our stay at this Riad, situated in the heart of Medina, one turn from the Main Street. It was beautifully decorated, vey exotic, and at the same time very clean. The room was excellent on the top floor with a beautiful terrace. Mohamed the hotel manager was very friendly and helpful speaking all possible languages which added a lot to our fantastic stay in Fes.

We had a great 7-day stay in Fes and Mourad was part of it being so great. Very attentive, always ready to help, proposing activities for the day and encouraging us to discover a more authentic Morocco. The Riad is in a quiet part of town, and it's a good place to relax after the frenetic activity of the medina.

The best part of Fes surprisingly was this hotel. We just loved hanging out on the terrace and watching the scene and the lights and sounds of the city. Sunset from the terrace here is magical. We ate our meals on the terrace. The Moroccan salad has been the best that we had in all of Morocco.
