Lake is beautiful, weather is great (despite the sudden changes), and feeling closer to nature is amazing. You have good food around, but several places are prepared to have foreign visitors spend lots of money for not-local foods. Seek for smaller non-fancy places to eat in order to taste real Mexico (don't eat a steak here... this is no meat land but seafood instead!). Need a car to do everything you want and need to enjoy Bacalar (highly recommended). Place is safe to walk around 24/7. Buy some goodies and drinks in advance to getting to your hotel to have something handy when everything is closed (remember, Southern Mexico opens late, takes a mid-day nap, and closes not that late). Take a hat, confortable sandals and water-based sun protection to avoid harming the corals. Very nice little town, much better than Tulum. No pushy people, acceptable prices, not too many tourists. This is a unique location in Mexico.
This is a unique location in Mexico. I definitely loved the intense animal life, the potential for peace, and the jungle. Unfortunately the lake seemed to be getting some kind of thick foam that would wash up on the beach and I saw no fish, which made me unhappy about the level of pollution. They also allowed motor boats, and although there were not many being used during my stay, it seemed like a clear path to destroying the natural habitat that people visit to experience. I definitely got the peaceful vibe that I wanted when I booked a stay in Bacalar, but my friend who stayed in a different hotel had to switch to another place because there was a wedding party happening under her room so enjoyment of a tranquil lake setting is not guaranteed if that is what you are seeking.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

The pool was amazing as was the room and bed. The restaurant where guests get 10% off was great and was so lovely to try some mexican wines. Staff were fantastic, especially the man who comes around at breakfast and helps you plan your day, giving great advice. My boyfriend was sick the last day and the staff were super helpful.
