Tijuana rather as I expected - not the premier destination of Mexico, but a vibrant, friendly, down-to-earth border city with easy-going people, chill beaches, and easy conversation with locals. I felt at home. Folks kept saying go to Rosarito which has the more touristy beaches. While we opted for Tijuana playas, which may not have been the cleanest or most exciting, we were certainly among locals and the vibes were awesome (which is my style of vacation - I'm not in Mexico to be surrounded by Americans!). We woke up with the sound of the waves right outside our Airbnb, a super cute coffee shop 3 min away by foot and lots of other walkable cafes, restaurants, and taquerias - and best of all, the dolphins enjoying breakfast right out of our window every AM with the sunrise. Feeling like a more touristy destination would have been fun and fancy, but overall less satisfying. My partner and I loved being more central to downtown and of course open to locals' recommendations. The hotel and location by the beach was nice. I didn't like the traffic. When we were there they were in the process of building freeway, so to get around was a challenge. I needed to go to the court building on a Friday when it should have been open but it was closed. So we ended up doing the long drive out there for nothing.
