Harlingen is a wonderful town, picturesque and full of...
Harlingen is a wonderful town, picturesque and full of charming houses, canals and historic places. The people were helpful, friendly and easy going. Surprisingly, the town caters for mostly Dutch tourists, so it was often a challenge to understand the history as there were no signs or explanations in English. The local museum is in Dutch only. But with German and English we were able to get by. The islands across from Harlingen are well worth a visit, the beaches are spectacular, almost deserted and clean. A lovely town, with lots of history, interesting architecture, and good transport connections. A busy harbour with frequent ferries to the islands, and trains to Leeuwarden, Groningen and beyond. Good bicycle rental shops, and easy access to the coast.
