We visited outside the season and enjoyed that there wasn't any overcrowding. It was easy to walk into any of the bars, restaurants or cafes and get an available table. We were lucky with the weather and fully enjoyed the beach and the promenade and a quick trip by tram into Den Haag. The tram ride took all of 10 - 15 minutes, buying a ticket was straight forward and easy. Breakfast at Oceans Beach is a strong recommendation, they even catered for special dietry requests and couldn't have been more welcoming. It's a very lively part of town but doesn't seem to be overly touristic, at least in October and May. As a woman it feels very safe to walk around at all hours, and the neighborhood is quite beautiful. The beach is like a breath of freedom. A little gem of a city with a bi of everything: beaches, culture, food and restaurants, sailing, very family-friendly and that laid-back Dutch atmosphere that makes for a really relaxing but stimulating holiday. The smokefree beach and FONK are absolute highlights, with the SeaLife Centre and Legoland great rainy-day options. The best way around is via bike. Scheveningen is a suburb of a large city and can be reached by tram. The beach area at the Kurhaus and pier is almost overcrowded with lots of fun sports such as a very high zip wire and Bunjeetower, Ferris wheel. We liked walking along the beach boardwalk, walking around town, and we did a few tram trips away such as den Hague and Leiden for the Naturalis centre. We walked along the pier and that was sort of interesting; we didn't ride the ferris wheel. Getting around town is easy walking or tram. We had one meal at an Indian restaurant that was not so good. Otherwise, we had groceries and ate in our room. I wouldn't suggest Oct. as it is not beach weather but for sure less tourists.Guest review byJulieAustralia - 10.0
We loved every moment staying on The Pier.
We loved every moment staying on The Pier. The view was fantastic, the room was clean and comfortable and we loved the special touches such as wine and chocolats wating for us every day, breakfast included and the staff were extremely helpful. The Boulevarde was long and exciting with lots of cafes and eateries. and the tram was available behind the Kurhaus and it was easy to travel to the Hague and back. There are no door cards..but real keys (cool)! The whole hotel staff is amazing and very friendly. We enjoyed early and yummy breakfast with an awesome chat with one of the employes (We regret we did not ask for his name). Of course a view on the sea was "included" when sitting at the table. My studio flat was very comfortable, spacious and clean. Plato is convenient to the central city area as well as to the train station (tram 9 opposite the church only 3 min stroll) and the beach (15 min walk).
