A quiet village nestled at the head of a beautiful fiord with towering mountains all around. Excellent facilities including a bakery, grocery store, Mall of Norway and several restaurants, plus fast food outlets. Mini cruises available to nearby attractions, kayaks for hire and lakeside saunas. Flam is a very small village with lots of tourist.
Flam is a very small village with lots of tourist. It is a beautiful place, don't get me wrong. I think the Nærøyfjord cruise was the best one, compared to Hardanger Fjord and Lysefjord. Unfortunately, it was super windy and rainy so we had to turn around half way through the cruise and couldn't do much of other activities as some of them had to be cancelled.Guest review byLidyaAustralia - 8.0

Everyone will tell you it’s a tiny tourist trap with nothing to do etc and yes, it’s the tourists’ first stop in the fjords and everything is overpriced. However, if you explore, you can find things to see and do from there. Flam port is not a little town it's a port with tourist facilities and the famous amazing train trip which we loved. I would recommend people staying in nearby towns like Aurlands which has a little town vibe. This is a scenic place and a getaway for all the ‘Norway in a nutshell’ tours. Unfortunately prices and level of service do not match up. The local businesses are hungry for tourist money, but don’t provide a warm, welcoming environment for visitors. Most everyone travels here to get out to the Fjords.
Most everyone travels here to get out to the Fjords. It is not that easy to get there, and the boat trip isn't long. . If I would do it over, I would have taken a cruise from Bergen as you spend more time in the Fjords because you're traveling through them.Guest review bypeterUnited States

Place is basic with no frills. Would like if they provided shampoo & shower gel but that’s ok. It’s a hostel. Can’t expect amenities like a 3 or 5 star hotel. Kitchen’s well equipped.
