A true gem! A very well preserved time capsule from the early 70's. I'm usually not a big fan of 70's architecture, but whoever designed this hotel in 1972 knew what he/she was doing. Unlike most hotels from this era it is also very well maintained and preserved in its original form, with everything in perfect order and working as intended. Most hotels in this category would either be quite run down or "renovated" without any consideration for the original atmosphere (thus losing whatever charm it might once have possessed). Not so Honne. I was also very impressed with the two ladies working the reception ....and the dinner service ...and the breakfast service. How they cope with that work load, while still being extremely efficient and friendly is beyond me. Hats off! The same is probably true for the maintenance staff, which appears to take great pride in preserving this hotel in perfect condition and in its original form.

This was the most charming and beautifully designed guesthouse we have ever stayed in. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with such warmth and kindness. As first-time visitors to this country, we felt incredibly lucky to have met Marianne and Lars, who not only made our stay unforgettable but also took the time to share the history of the hotel and the Norwegian way of life with us. In the morning, they prepared a delightful breakfast, and we sipped our coffee on the terrace, taking in the breathtaking view. Every flower in the house was vibrant and full of life, a reflection of the care and attention they put into every detail. Even though we were their only guests that night, they went above and beyond to make us feel at home. Marianne and Lars are truly exceptional hosts, dedicated to creating a warm and welcoming experience for their guests. We are so grateful to have had the chance to stay here and to have met such wonderful people. It felt like home—filled with comfort, kindness, and genuine hospitality. Thank you for everything. We booked for a family of 4 and had one of the buildings to ourselves. Vita and Helga who are the best hosts ever live in the central building. We stayed in Feb so was covered in snow. At the ranch they have plenty of snow shoes, overalls etc. even in kids sizes. There are even sledges you can use for the very quiet mountain roads. You will need a 4x4 if winter time. You get access to the hot tub, if other guests there it can easily be sorted out so you have private use of it. A new sauna has been built for an extra charge but it is well worth it. Just give them notice so they can heat it. Vita came along and gave us a foot bath and also face masks. She popped round most mornings with little treats for us all, but you also get your own family time. This is typical of Vita who goes a step beyond. We only booked one evening meal with her, 3 courses and all delicious. When she sends you directions, use her directions exactly. Do not use google maps alone. The road Google maps takes you is on what they call a tractor road and people can get stuck there for quite some time.
