The bakehouse pies are worth queueing for.

The bakehouse pies are worth queueing for. There are a couple of nice shops - not much else there although you could visit the nearby hamlets which looked to have some interesting features. We tried to walk along the river but the path was quite overgrown.

Fairlie hasnt got buried by tourists yet- it is real and the locals are busy farm folk. There are a couple of good eating places (our favourite is the Library restaurant-changed hands but food still excellent). The supermarket is well stocked. We have done some of the walks with our kids before - the new bike tracks sound interesting-must try them out next time. The information place is a gem with a couple of bubbly ladies with helpful ideas.

Lovely little town away from tourist spots and really good value. Couple of pubs to eat at and a chinese and bakery and supermarket. We used it as a place to have a quiet day before going to Christchurch. Turned out much better than expected and after some rain it was beautiful to see all the snow covered mountains around the town.

Fairlie is a very small village with the main attractions being the alpaca farm (nice for families) and the local pie bakery, which has been hyped in social media. We found the pies being not above average, we had better ones in most places. The best thing about Fairlie was the Fairlie Holiday Park and its comfy rooms.

Fairlie is a cute town that is close to many other places such as Lake Tekapo and Timaru. It has a number of good shops and nice restaurants. When my partner and I came to stay we went to a restaurant called Carnegies and it does quite tasty pizzas. Fairlie Bakehouse is also a good place to stop by but be careful going at lunch time as it was extremely busy when we went at 12pm. We enjoyed reading the little info stands telling you about the history of Fairlie. There's also a place you can stay at (Rollesby accommodation) that has hot tubs, so lovely. Overall, would visit Fairlie again!

Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 353 reviews
The rooms were very clean and the layout was great. The design is quite good, and we loved having a deck with an outdoor table to eat our meals at. The flying fox and alpacas were also fun for the kids. The property has pretty gardens and feels like a country retreat, through it is just off the main road and close to the Fairlie shops. The hot tub was the best part - the kids enjoyed it in the afternoon, then the grown-ups enjoyed it under the stars later. Pay the extra $50 for this, it is well worth it!

The old forge is a very old house in quiet Fairlie. The old house has its charme and you can feel the time the house has already been here. There are lots of things to explore in the house. The records and the fire place really are gorgeous. Also it is not far away from Lake Tekapo. You also has to understand that it is an old house and so everything is askew and the wooden floor creaks. I really liked it!

Nice staff and guests. All genuine . An authentic old railway hotel. Shabby but having its own charm. Heater in room, lovely crisp clean sheets, quiet at the back.

The location, next to the Fairlie Bake house. The room was cosy and big enough for a family of 4. It was clean and warm.

The room was better than I expected with more amenities than you would find in a city hotel.
