Our 2-night stay was about doing a day trip to Castlepoint which we achieved. Fabulous spot with lovely sandy beach. Can recommend stopping @ the local store for a feed of Blue Cod & chips. Couldn't have been fresher. Delicious food @ Tripoli & CBK each evening. Coffee @ Strada was good too. Queen Elizabeth Park is worth checking out. The travel is 6-7 hours from Auckland.
The travel is 6-7 hours from Auckland. Maybe 2 nights is just right if you want to see all the attractions of Masterton. Unfortunately, we only went to Castlepoint due to time constraints. There is a dairy where we ate lunch.Guest review byRosaNew Zealand - 8.0

Queen Elizabeth park is great, there is a train and boat...
Queen Elizabeth park is great, there is a train and boat rides and the park itself is huge, on the day we visited there everything was free to go on and there was a mini market so you could buy some food. Then you can go across the road to the pools - indoor and outdoor and that was free also. We liked the compactness of Masterton and its got heaps of shops and heaps of options Makkies, KFC, Subways, PaknSave, Countdown etc. We got Roast meals one night, very yum and way too much. The accommodation is a delightful cabin which was very comfortable and clean. This was a great spot to slow down on our trip around NZ. We also had the bonus of watching WWI planes flying around the area from the aerodrome just down the road. We were told later that Peter Jackson has 40 working planes at Masterton. Also went to Castlepoint for a drive to the lighthouse. Stopped at the Te Anui hotel for a great coffee on the way out and lunch on the way back. Nice little stop.Guest review byNormanAustralia

From bunny cookies and a bowl of fruit to breakfast ingredients with toiletries in case they were needed were just some of the things we appreciated. The cottage was immaculately presented, comfortable and centrally located. The shower was 5 star hotel quality. The kitchen had everything you could want for self catering.
