Quiet setting. Friendly local store and library, with a book swapping facility. Easy access to great walking and sites of interest. Friendly staff and good quality meals available in the bistro. This was a nostalgic visit for me as I lived on a farm near Mount Somers until I was 14. Revisiting childhood memories included driving up the Ashburton Gorge to Lake Camp, hiking to the Blackburn Coal Mine and to Dukes Knob (in lieu of the Sharplin Falls Track which is now closed), and enjoying the magnificent views of the foot hills, especially of Mt Somers itself.Guest review byRobyn ONew Zealand
