Paihia is absolutely stunning.
Paihia is absolutely stunning. I visited most recently in Winter and loved taking the kids over to Russell to see some true NZ history. But the first time I visited was Summer and that is when you should definitely visit. Its out of this world. Great food outlets, pubs, walks and views. I have family roots in Waitangi, but when I decided to take my granddaughter (11yrs) and grandson (09yrs) to take a look at our waka, it was going to cost me $35.00 per head (adults) x2 just for my grandkids to see our canoe. Paihia is a great place to stay and head to the islands and the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. The ferry port and Treaty Grounds are in easy walking distance from the apartments. The apartment was very well presented and equipped. Gorgeous views. We thank the proprietors for the 'essentials' they provided including chocolate! I’m impressed with the variety of shops including food/kai restaurants. King Wahs, Jimmy Jacks. The local 4 Square also has a variety of specials for those travelling by camper vans or doing a weekend stay like us. We would have done a lot more had we had the time. Lots of great fishing spots. The property was perfect, very well equipped and very comfortable. Murray and Pam were great hosts. They welcomed us at the door and briefly showed the property. They were really helpful with ideas and tips as what to do, where to eat, etc. They checked in with us on email but otherwise gave us total privacy. Paihia was a great base to see the bay of islands.
