What a delightful little town!
What a delightful little town! The glow worm caves were an absolute highlight, especially with the stunning waterfall inside—such a magical experience. The town is clean, walkable, and full of charming little shops and scenic walks. Plus, the grocery store was top-notch for anything you might need. We ended up staying at the Tasman holiday park, the bed was so much more comfortable and the manager there was so lovely. Te Anau was a great spot to see the glow worm caves, which was our highlight and we drove to do the Milford sound and it was a beautiful drive, which took about 2 hours both ways. There’s some lovely cafes and restaurants, gift shops and supermarkets. The bird sanctuary to se the Takahe was also a great stop.Guest review byJacqui - 10.0

I really enjoyed our stay in Te Anau. It's a beautiful town. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Great location to stay for a night or two if you are going to do the Milford track or do any of the attractions in the Milford Sound and surrounding area. I would definitely stay at the @Radford on the Lakeside. Lovely motel and very nice rooms. Have dinner at the Fat Duck (Lumina lamb dish was delicious). Breakfast and lunches at Sandfly. Te Anau is perfect for a weekend break and is ideally situated to access Milford Sound. The drive to Milford is memorable even without taking a cruise, the cruise is well worth it. Perfect base to visit Milford Sound, with excellent restaurants, cafes and gift shops in town. We ate at the Fat Duck which was crowned best gastropub in all of New Zealand, and it was great. We also enjoyed eating at the The Ranch, and it was another fabulous meal. Definitely worth a couple of nights stay in Te Anau. The Kingsgate had the most comfortable beds of all of them. Clean and comfortable despite being a little older. Good location across from the lake although it would be a 5-10 minute walk to town and restaurants. Staff were very helpful. The motel was very clean and room was big. Location wise, you can walk to the town center or to the lake.
