Whitianga is a great place to visit.
Whitianga is a great place to visit. If you are traveling from Auckland, the trip is not too far by car but traveling from as far as Wellington might be too far if you're only going to be there for a short period of time. Whitianga is a great central location for the Coromandel coast. Nice town atmosphere with plenty of good places to eat and drink. Cathy O'Malley's was warm and welcoming in very bad weather. Within 40 mins drive of Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach, it offers plenty of accommodation and services that the other locations don't. Easy ferry access to the Cooks Beach side, and the bonus of Lost Spring thermal spa and restaurant for romantic relaxation and dining. Great location which we'll visit again. We would most definitely stay here again. The back bedroom had an annoying quirk that as it had no headboard. When you slept you hit the blind with your pillows which knocked against the windows which woke us up at times, however, it was a very small annoyance in comparison with the fantastic apartment, amazing view and great position of Crows nest apartments.
